The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given IPL franchises two additional days to finalise their player retention and release lists ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 mini auction. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the deadline has been extended from November 15 to November 17.

All 10 franchises will now have until November 17 to decide which players they want to retain and which ones they plan to release before the upcoming auction. The original deadline for submitting the final lists was November 15.

However, the BCCI has not made any changes to the IPL 2027 mini auction schedule. The auction will take place in Goa on December 16 as previously planned.

Why Did BCCI Extend the IPL 2027 Retention Deadline?

According to Cricbuzz, the decision to extend the retention deadline was taken because of a scheduling clash with the fifth ODI between India and New Zealand, scheduled for November 15.

The additional two days will give all 10 IPL franchises more time to complete their squad planning and make final decisions regarding player retentions and releases.

Interestingly, India are also scheduled to play an ODI against Sri Lanka at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on December 16, the same day as the IPL 2027 mini auction.

Despite this scheduling overlap, there has been no official indication from the BCCI about changing the auction date. For now, the December 16 schedule remains unchanged.

IPL 2027 Trade News: Will Mumbai Indians Part Ways With Hardik Pandya?

Player trade discussions have also become a major talking point ahead of the IPL 2027 auction. India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is at the centre of speculation, with reports suggesting that Mumbai Indians could consider moving him out of the squad.

Hardik returned to Mumbai Indians in 2024 and took over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma. He has led the franchise over the last three seasons, although his leadership tenure has reportedly not delivered the results the management expected.

Reports also suggest that Mumbai Indians have already considered bringing Rohit Sharma back as captain. The franchise has reportedly replaced Mahela Jayawardene with Kieron Pollard as head coach.

However, the developments surrounding Hardik Pandya’s future remain part of ongoing trade speculation.

CSK May Release Prashant Veer Ahead of IPL 2027 Auction

Chennai Super Kings could also make changes to their squad before the upcoming mini auction. According to Cricbuzz, CSK may release young left-arm all-rounder Prashant Veer to create additional funds for the auction.

The franchise had spent Rs 14.2 crore to acquire the 20-year-old all-rounder at last year’s auction. His possible release could give Chennai greater financial flexibility while preparing for the IPL 2027 mini auction.

With the retention deadline now extended to November 17, franchises have a little more time to finalise their squads. Attention will remain on major player movements, particularly the reported Hardik Pandya trade discussions and Chennai Super Kings’ plans for Prashant Veer.
