The Department of Posts has announced a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for eligible employees for the financial year 2025–26. Under the decision, the bonus will be equivalent to 60 days of salary, with a monthly salary ceiling of ₹7,000 for calculating the payment.
According to an order issued by the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, on October 16, 2026, the bonus will cover eligible Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group ‘C’ employees and non-gazetted Group ‘B’ staff. The department has also outlined separate bonus arrangements for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) and certain casual workers.
Although the exact bonus amount has not been specified in the order, the department has provided the formula employees can use to understand how the payment will be calculated.
Who Is Eligible for the India Post Bonus?
The bonus provisions cover several categories of postal department workers. Regular employees belonging to the MTS, Group ‘C’ and non-gazetted Group ‘B’ categories are eligible for the Productivity Linked Bonus.
Regular Gramin Dak Sevaks will receive a bonus through an ex-gratia payment. Meanwhile, full-time casual workers, including those with temporary status, will be covered under the ad-hoc bonus arrangement.
Employees who resigned, retired, left service or proceeded on deputation during the period from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, will also remain eligible for the bonus, subject to the applicable provisions. This includes deputation within the Department of Posts as well as to organisations outside the department.
How Will the 60-Day Bonus Be Calculated?
For regular departmental employees, the bonus will be calculated using the average salary and the number of bonus days. The prescribed formula is:
Bonus = Average Salary × Number of Bonus Days ÷ 30.4
Here, 30.4 represents the average number of days in a month. Since the bonus is equivalent to 60 days of salary, the calculation will use 60 as the number of bonus days.
The salary considered for the calculation includes basic pay, Dearness Allowance (DA), SB allowance, duty allowance and training allowance for employees posted at training institutes.
A monthly salary ceiling of ₹7,000 will apply. If an employee’s salary exceeds this limit in any month during the 2025–26 financial year, the amount considered for the bonus calculation will be restricted to ₹7,000 per month.
Bonus Calculation for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS)
Gramin Dak Sevaks who remained on duty throughout the 2025–26 financial year will have their bonus calculated using their Time-Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) and Dearness Allowance (DA).
For this purpose, the total TRCA and DA earned between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, will be divided by 12 to arrive at the average monthly amount. If the resulting figure exceeds ₹7,000, the monthly amount used for the calculation will be limited to ₹7,000.
The Department of Posts’ October 16, 2026, order sets out the eligibility categories and calculation methods for the annual bonus. Employees should refer to the applicable departmental instructions for the final amount payable under their respective categories.
