Heavy Rain Kills 15 in Uttar Pradesh
Heavy rainfall and storms have affected several parts of Uttar Pradesh over the past two days, leaving 15 people dead and damaging 117 houses, according to the state’s relief authorities. Five people were also reported injured and four animals were killed.
Officials said 63 districts recorded above-normal rainfall. The heavy downpour has affected crops and caused waterlogging and flooding in several locations.
The India Meteorological Department has warned of continued severe weather. Its September 26 forecast listed heavy rain for East Uttar Pradesh and very heavy rain for West Uttar Pradesh on September 27, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning.
Yogi Adityanath Directs Relief Measures
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to provide immediate assistance to affected families and assess damage caused by the rainfall.
Authorities have been asked to assess losses involving homes, crops and other property so that relief measures can be carried out in affected areas.
With additional rainfall forecast in parts of the state, residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert and follow local administration and weather department advisories.
