The Uttar Pradesh government runs the Bhagya Laxmi Yojana to provide financial support to families for the care and education of girl children. The scheme was introduced with the aim of discouraging practices such as female foeticide and improving the social and economic prospects of daughters.

What Benefits Are Available Under Bhagya Laxmi Yojana?
At the time of a girl child’s birth, a bond worth ₹50,000 is provided. This bond is stated to mature to ₹2 lakh when the girl reaches 21 years of age. In addition, ₹5,100 is provided to the mother to support the initial expenses related to the child’s upbringing.
Financial assistance is also linked to the girl’s education. The family receives ₹3,000 when she enters Class 6, ₹5,000 at the time of admission to Class 8, ₹7,000 on entering Class 10 and ₹8,000 at Class 12. The total educational assistance under these stages comes to ₹23,000.
Who Can Get the Scheme Benefits?
The scheme is intended for economically weaker families in Uttar Pradesh. According to the eligibility details provided for Bhagya Laxmi Yojana, the beneficiary family should be a resident of Uttar Pradesh and its annual income should be below ₹2 lakh.
The scheme is also linked to BPL families. The girl’s registration is required within the specified period after birth, and she is expected to study in a government school. The girl should not be married before attaining the age of 18 years.

Applicants need to keep the required documents ready before applying. These include the parents’ Aadhaar cards, income certificate, caste certificate, residence proof, passport-sized photograph, the girl’s birth certificate, bank account details and mobile number.
How to Apply for Bhagya Laxmi Yojana
Eligible families can complete the application process through the concerned government welfare authorities and Anganwadi centres. Applicants are required to submit the prescribed form along with the necessary documents.
