The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of southern and eastern India on Sunday, September 20. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are among the areas under a heavy-rain warning.
The weather department has also issued warnings for thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in a number of regions. Odisha is under a thunderstorm and lightning warning today, while Madhya Maharashtra has warnings for heavy rain along with thunderstorm and lightning activity.
Heavy Rain Alert for Southern and Coastal Regions
Coastal Andhra Pradesh is expected to receive heavy rain along with thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds. Telangana also remains under a heavy-rain warning, with similar conditions forecast over the coming days.
Karnataka is also likely to see heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning across several areas. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are under heavy-rain and thunderstorm warnings as well.
Kerala and Mahe are also included in the heavy-rain forecast for September 20.
Rain and Thunderstorm Activity in Other Areas
The IMD has forecast thunderstorm and lightning activity over Odisha today, with stronger rainfall conditions expected in the state during the following days. Madhya Maharashtra is also under a heavy-rain warning accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning activity on September 20.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands remain under a heavy-rain warning today, following a very heavy rainfall warning issued for the previous day. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected.
Fishermen Advised to Remain Cautious
The IMD has also issued marine weather advisories for parts of the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into areas covered by the warning period because of potentially unsettled sea conditions.
The weather department is expected to continue monitoring rainfall and thunderstorm activity across the affected regions as conditions develop.
