Udhayanidhi Stalin arrest news: After being released in connection with the controversy over his alleged remarks during a DMK rally, Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a sharp attack on the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), accusing its supporters of twisting his words and spreading misinformation. The DMK leader said he was prepared to face arrest “a hundred times” if it meant fighting for the rights of farmers.
Udhayanidhi Accuses TVK Of Distorting His Speech
Soon after his release on Tuesday, Udhayanidhi alleged that the ruling establishment had used his arrest to divert public attention from pressing issues affecting farmers.
In a strongly worded statement, he criticized what he referred to as the “Sofa Model” government, claiming it had failed to address agricultural concerns and instead resorted to political action against him.
According to Udhayanidhi, supporters of the TVK deliberately misrepresented his remarks made during the Thanjavur protest.
He claimed that after the rally, members of the ruling party’s “abusive warriors” spread misleading narratives by alleging that he had made objectionable comments during his speech.
‘False Cases Filed To Harass Me’
The DMK leader alleged that the cases registered against him were politically motivated and intended to intimidate him.
He said authorities transported him from Chennai to Thanjavur believing the move would harass him and serve political interests. However, he insisted that he never attempted to evade the police and viewed the entire episode as politically driven.
Udhayanidhi recalled telling reporters before leaving with the police that he considered the arrest “a comedy” and emphasized that he did not flee out of fear.
‘I Am Ready To Be Arrested 100 Times’
Reaffirming his support for farmers, Udhayanidhi declared that legal action would not stop him from raising their issues.
He said if speaking up for farmers resulted in arrest, he was willing to face it repeatedly.
The DMK leader also remarked that he would willingly travel thousands of kilometres in custody if it served the interests of farmers, adding that political pressure would never deter his commitment to public welfare.
Takes Swipe At Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay
Udhayanidhi also targeted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay over his handling of the Karur tragedy.
He alleged that after the deaths of 41 people in Karur, the Chief Minister neither met the affected families nor addressed the media. Udhayanidhi further claimed that Vijay later travelled to Malaysia for a film-related promotional event instead of remaining focused on the state’s concerns.
Contrasting himself with the Chief Minister, Udhayanidhi said he was not afraid of arrest and described himself as the grandson of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi (Kalaignar) and the son of DMK president M.K. Stalin.

The DMK leader expressed gratitude to alliance partners, political organizations and party workers across Tamil Nadu who condemned his arrest and extended their support following the incident.
What Triggered The Udhayanidhi Stalin Arrest?
The controversy began after Udhayanidhi addressed a DMK rally in Thanjavur on Monday, where he criticized the Tamil Nadu government’s handling of the Cauvery water dispute.
During his speech, supporters repeatedly chanted actor Trisha’s name. Udhayanidhi’s response was interpreted by several people as a double entendre aimed at the actor, triggering widespread political criticism.
Following the incident, Bhairavi, a member of TVK’s women’s wing, filed a police complaint alleging that his remarks were objectionable.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Udhayanidhi under six legal provisions, including non-bailable sections.
Released After High Court Intervention
Police arrested Udhayanidhi from his residence in Neelangarai, Chennai, on Tuesday and took him to Thanjavur for questioning.
However, the Madras High Court directed that he be released on station bail immediately after interrogation. Following the inquiry, police released the DMK leader on the same day.
The controversy has intensified the political confrontation between the DMK and TVK, with both parties accusing each other of spreading misinformation and attempting to gain political mileage from the episode.
