Truecaller has introduced a new Scam Checker feature designed to help users investigate potential online scams before responding to them. The tool brings several scam-checking options together, allowing users to examine suspicious phone numbers, links and messages from a single place.
The feature expands Truecaller’s role beyond caller identification and spam blocking by giving users additional tools to investigate potentially suspicious situations.
What Can You Check With Truecaller Scam Checker?
Launched on September 24, Scam Checker allows users to investigate different elements commonly associated with scams.
Users can paste a web link into the tool to check whether it may be connected to a phishing attempt. If a phone number appears suspicious, Truecaller can use its detection systems and community signals to provide relevant information about the number.
The service also includes a feature called Scamfeed, where users can view scam reports shared by other members of the Truecaller community. This can provide additional context about suspicious numbers or situations that have already been reported.
Users can also describe a suspicious incident in their own words. Scam Checker then provides relevant results, including information about the phone number or links involved and similar reports from the community.
Truecaller Brings the Main Scam Elements Together
Truecaller says the aim is to make scam investigation simpler by reducing the need to switch between different apps, websites and searches.
Instead, users can investigate three common parts of a suspicious interaction in one place: the phone number, the link involved and the story or situation surrounding it.
The service is supported by insights from Truecaller’s community of more than 500 million users, which contributes information that can help identify potential spam and scam activity.
More Scam Detection Features Are Being Developed
Truecaller is also working on additional security features aimed at identifying different scam techniques. The company is expected to introduce support for uploading screenshots, which could help users check information shown in suspicious messages or interactions.
While announcing the feature, Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala said, “People often sense something’s off, but they need a fast way to check before reacting.”
The company says the broader goal is to give people a quick way to investigate something suspicious before taking further action.
Who Can Access Scam Checker?
The Scam Checker is currently available worldwide through the Truecaller website. Its Android app version is also live in India and is expected to be introduced in other countries later, although no specific timeline has been provided.
Support for iOS is also planned, but Truecaller has not announced a confirmed release date for the iPhone version.
