Tata Motors has introduced the new Tata Aeris in the compact sedan segment, putting it up against the popular Maruti Suzuki Dzire. Both models are available with petrol and CNG powertrain options and offer buyers the choice of manual and AMT transmissions.
The two sedans differ in several areas. The Aeris starts at a lower price and offers slightly higher power, a larger touchscreen and a twin-cylinder CNG setup. The Dzire, meanwhile, has an advantage in claimed fuel efficiency and also gets an electric sunroof.
Tata Aeris vs Maruti Dzire: Price
The Tata Aeris starts at an ex-showroom price of ₹5.29 lakh, while the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has a starting price of ₹6.31 lakh. This gives the Aeris an initial price advantage of around ₹1 lakh.
At the top end, however, the pricing is reversed. The highest variant of the Dzire is priced at ₹9.41 lakh, while the top-spec Aeris costs ₹9.74 lakh.
Engine and Gearbox
Both cars use a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine, but their power outputs are slightly different.
The petrol version of the Tata Aeris produces 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. The Dzire’s petrol engine generates 82 PS and 112 Nm of torque.
The difference continues with the CNG versions. The Aeris produces 76 PS and 97 Nm in CNG mode, while the Dzire CNG delivers 70 PS and 102 Nm.
Both sedans are offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as a 5-speed AMT. The Aeris also gets a twin-cylinder CNG configuration, which is one of its notable differences.
Mileage and Features
The Maruti Dzire has an advantage in the claimed mileage figures. Its petrol AMT version is claimed to deliver up to 26.13 kmpl, while the CNG AMT variant has a claimed efficiency of up to 36.47 km/kg.
The Tata Aeris is also available with a CNG-AMT combination, although its CNG mileage figure has not yet been confirmed.
In terms of equipment, the Aeris gets a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, compared with the 9-inch screen in the Dzire. Both models support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The Aeris also comes with features such as ventilated front seats, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, an integrated dashcam and rain-sensing wipers. The Dzire’s notable advantage is its electric sunroof, which is not offered with the Aeris.
Both cars come with cruise control, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera and six airbags.
Boot Space
The Tata Aeris offers 419 litres of boot capacity in its petrol version. In comparison, the Maruti Dzire provides 382 litres of boot space.
This gives the Aeris a 37-litre advantage in petrol form, providing additional luggage space for buyers who place importance on boot capacity.
