The government provides subsidised food grains and other benefits to eligible families through the Public Distribution System (PDS). To access these benefits, ration cardholders are required to link their ration cards with Aadhaar. This process helps verify the identity of family members and reduces the chances of duplicate or fraudulent beneficiaries receiving ration supplies.

Earlier, people often had to visit government offices several times to complete Aadhaar linking. However, the process can now be completed through the official website of the respective state’s Food and Civil Supplies Department. Those who prefer an offline method can also visit their nearest government ration shop to complete Aadhaar seeding.

Ration cardholders can apply for Aadhaar linking from home by following a few simple steps. The online facility is generally available through the official portal of the state’s Food and Civil Supplies Department.

First, visit your state’s official Food and Civil Supplies website. Look for an option such as “Link Aadhaar with Ration Card”, “Aadhaar Seeding” or “Ration Card e-KYC”.

Select the relevant service and enter your ration card number along with the Aadhaar numbers of the family members who need to be linked. If OTP verification is required, enter the one-time password sent to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar.

Check the information carefully before submitting the application. Once the request is successfully submitted, save the confirmation message or reference number displayed on the screen for future use.

How to Complete Ration Card-Aadhaar Linking Offline

People who are unable to complete the online process can visit their nearest government ration shop or the local office of the Food and Civil Supplies Department.

For the offline process, applicants may be asked to provide a photocopy of their ration card, Aadhaar card copies of family members, a passport-size photograph and a copy of their bank passbook.

Aadhaar authentication is then carried out at the ration shop using a Point of Sale (POS) machine. The beneficiary may need to provide a fingerprint or thumb impression to complete the verification.

After submitting the request, collect the acknowledgement receipt and keep the application details safely. The Aadhaar seeding status can also be checked through an SMS service or the designated online portal, wherever available.

Why Is Aadhaar Linking Important for Ration Cardholders?

Linking Aadhaar with ration cards helps authorities confirm the identity of beneficiaries and identify duplicate or multiple ration cards. It also supports greater transparency in the Public Distribution System.

If a beneficiary faces difficulties receiving ration supplies because Aadhaar linking or e-KYC is incomplete, they should contact their local ration dealer or the Food and Civil Supplies Department to understand the issue and complete any pending requirements.
