Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made several announcements for Agniveers and economically weaker families during his visit to Gonda. While inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for 69 development projects worth approximately ₹520 crore in Tejpur village, located in the Gaura Assembly constituency, he spoke about employment opportunities for former Agniveers and support for poor households ahead of Diwali.
The announcements included 20% reservation for former Agniveers in various state government departments and a promise of a free LPG cylinder for eligible poor families before the festival.
20% Government Job Reservation for Former Agniveers
Addressing the gathering in Gonda, Yogi Adityanath said that Agniveers completing their four-year military service would be given employment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh government departments.
He announced a 20% reservation for former Agniveers in departments including the Police, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), Home Guards, Forest Department and Prison Department, among others.
The Chief Minister also said that former Agniveers would be considered for direct recruitment without having to appear for a written examination. The move is intended to provide career opportunities to young people after their military service.
Agniveers to Get an Additional Two-Year Service Option
A major change to the Agnipath scheme was also approved by the Union Cabinet on November 4, 2026. Under the revised arrangement, the initial four-year service period remains in place, but eligible Agniveers will have an opportunity to continue serving for another two years.
Under the updated policy, 25% of Agniveers will be offered regular employment in the Defence Forces based on merit. The remaining 75% will be offered a second engagement period of two years, depending on their willingness.
After completing the extended period, Agniveers will also have an opportunity to join the regular Armed Forces, subject to their willingness and fulfilment of the prescribed selection criteria. The extended engagement will include higher remuneration, an enhanced Seva Nidhi package and seniority benefits.
This means the additional two-year period is not restricted to low-performing recruits, as suggested in some reports. <Link ref=”turn584669search0″ title=”Read the official Ministry of Defence announcement”/>.
