New Delhi: Maserati has introduced its GT2 Stradale supercar in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 5.72 crore. Developed as a road-legal version of the company’s GT2 racing car, the model is based on the MC20 platform but receives several upgrades focused on performance, handling and aerodynamics.
The supercar is powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 engine and weighs 60kg less than the standard MC20. It also gets updated suspension, braking hardware and aerodynamic components inspired by Maserati’s racing programme. Production will be limited to just 914 units worldwide, a number chosen to honour 1914, the year Maserati was founded.
The GT2 Stradale joins the recently launched MCPura in Maserati’s lineup. The MCPura is an updated version of the MC20, featuring exterior and interior changes while retaining the 630hp Nettuno V6 engine, carbon-fibre chassis and butterfly doors.
Maserati GT2 Stradale Engine and Performance
The Maserati GT2 Stradale uses a 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged Nettuno V6 petrol engine. It delivers 640hp and 720Nm of peak torque, with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox transferring power to the rear wheels.
According to Maserati, the supercar can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in just 2.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 324kph.
With a dry weight of 1,365kg, the GT2 Stradale is 60kg lighter than the MC20. This weight reduction, combined with its mechanical upgrades, is designed to improve its overall performance.
Drivers can select from four standard driving modes: Wet, GT, Sport and Corsa. Maserati also offers two optional performance packages. The Performance Pack adds Michelin semi-slick tyres, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential and carbon-ceramic brakes.
Buyers looking for additional track-focused equipment can opt for the Performance Pack Plus. It includes four-point racing harnesses, a mounting bracket and a fire extinguisher. Both packages also introduce the Corsa Evo driving mode, which offers four levels of electronic intervention. This allows drivers to adjust how much assistance they receive from the car’s electronic systems.
Exterior Design and Aerodynamic Upgrades
The GT2 Stradale has a more aggressive appearance than the standard MC20, with its exterior design drawing heavily from Maserati’s GT2 race car. The front section features a redesigned bumper, a large diffuser and additional air vents on the bonnet and wheel arches. These openings help channel hot air out and reduce pressure around the front of the car.
At the rear, larger air intakes have been developed to improve cooling for the engine and radiators. Maserati says these changes increase cooling airflow by 16 per cent. The rear section also features a prominent diffuser and an adjustable wing with three settings, allowing drivers to change the aerodynamic downforce.
In its highest-downforce setting, the GT2 Stradale produces 500kg of downforce at 280kph. Of this total, 130kg acts on the front axle and 370kg on the rear. By comparison, the standard MC20 generates 145kg of downforce at the same speed.
The supercar also benefits from revised suspension, steering and braking systems developed with inputs from Maserati’s GT2 racing programme. However, it continues to use the carbon-fibre monocoque chassis shared with the MC20 and the GT2 race car.
It sits on 20-inch forged alloy wheels featuring a racing-style single-nut mounting system. These wheels help reduce weight by around 19kg compared with the regular setup. Maserati has also included a front-axle lift system, which can raise the front of the car by 35mm to help it clear speed breakers and other obstacles.
Interior, Technology and Comfort Features
The cabin retains the basic dashboard layout of the MC20 but receives several changes to create a more performance-oriented driving environment. The centre tunnel has been redesigned, while Alcantara upholstery and darker interior materials help reduce unwanted reflections.
A carbon-fibre steering wheel features integrated gearshift indicator lights and paddle shifters. The lightweight carbon-fibre racing seats are available in two sizes to provide a better fit for different drivers.
Despite its focus on track performance, the GT2 Stradale retains several familiar features from the standard MC20. These include the signature butterfly doors, a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, a central touchscreen infotainment system and a 100-litre luggage compartment.
The equipment list also includes driver assistance systems, cameras and parking sensors, allowing the supercar to be used for regular road driving as well as track activities.
With only 914 units planned for global production, a more powerful engine and extensive aerodynamic improvements, the Maserati GT2 Stradale stands among the Italian manufacturer’s most exclusive road-going performance cars.
