Gold and silver prices remained in focus on September 25 as bullion markets responded to developments surrounding US monetary policy, economic data and geopolitical tensions. Gold moved higher in early trading, while US gold futures and domestic MCX gold also recorded gains. Silver futures also edged up during the session.

For buyers in India, gold and silver prices can vary between cities because of local market conditions, taxes and other pricing factors. Rates also differ according to the purity of gold, with 24-carat and 22-carat being among the commonly quoted categories.

Gold Prices Rise in Global and Indian Markets

Spot gold gained 0.44% to $4,294 per ounce during early trading on September 25. US gold futures also advanced, rising 0.62% to $4,324.80 per ounce.

On the domestic market, October gold futures on the MCX had ended the previous session 0.09% higher.

Domestic spot gold closed the previous session at ₹1,50,106 per 10 grams, while silver settled at ₹2,28,268 per kilogram. The movement in international bullion prices therefore continues to be an important factor for domestic gold and silver markets.

US Interest Rates and Geopolitical Risks Remain Key Factors

Gold prices are currently sensitive to expectations about US interest rates as well as incoming economic data and geopolitical developments.

Ashish Rajodiya, Head of Commodities at PL Capital, said the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy path remains a major influence on gold. He noted that stronger-than-expected US economic data could increase pressure on prices, while signs of a cooling labour market or renewed tensions in the Gulf could bring fresh buying interest.

The comments highlight the importance of upcoming US economic indicators for bullion markets. Strong economic data can strengthen expectations around tighter monetary policy and weigh on gold, while weaker labour-market signals or increased geopolitical uncertainty can support demand for the precious metal.

Gold Purity and Retail Prices

Gold prices also depend on purity. 24-carat gold represents the highest purity generally quoted in the market and is commonly associated with investment-grade gold.

22-carat gold, meanwhile, contains other metals along with gold, making it more suitable for jewellery because of its greater durability.

Retail gold and silver rates can change during the day. Jewellery prices may also be higher than the quoted bullion rate because of GST, making charges and other applicable costs.
