Central government employees are still waiting for an official announcement on the next dearness allowance (DA) hike. An announcement had been anticipated this week, but no decision has been made public so far.

The delay has raised questions about when the revised allowance will be announced and how much employees could receive. Although the Cabinet usually meets on Wednesdays, the expected meeting did not take place this week, leaving employees waiting for further clarity.

When Will the Next DA Hike Be Announced?

Dearness allowance revisions are commonly announced following Cabinet approval, but the timing can vary. The Finance Ministry could announce the decision separately, meaning the update may come later this week or the following week.

The next Cabinet meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28. Employees may receive an update at that meeting, although an announcement could also come earlier if the government decides to release it beforehand.

Until an official decision is announced, the revised DA rate and implementation details remain unconfirmed.

How Much Could the DA Increase?

Expectations suggest that the next dearness allowance revision could be between 3% and 4%. However, the final increase will depend on the relevant inflation index data and the government’s decision.

If the current DA rate of 60% is increased by 3 percentage points, it would reach 63%. A 4-percentage-point increase would take it to 64%.

The calculation is based on the 12-month average of the relevant All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW). For the January revision, the government considers index figures from January through December of the preceding year.

These figures represent possible outcomes, not a confirmed increase. Employees will need to wait for the official announcement to know the revised rate.

Why Is DA Revised Twice a Year?

The central government generally revises dearness allowance twice annually to help employees manage the impact of inflation on their purchasing power.

The two revisions normally take effect from January and July. However, the announcement dates often come later than the effective dates.

The January instalment is commonly announced in March or April, while the July revision may be announced between September and November.

For now, central government employees must await confirmation of the next DA hike, including the final percentage increase and payment arrangements.

Employees should refer to official government notifications for the final DA rate, effective date and payment details.
