New Delhi: India’s proposed white-ball tour of Bangladesh could finally take place in January 2027 after facing several postponements. The opening week of January is reportedly being considered for the six-match series, although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have not made an official announcement yet.

According to a report by India Today, discussions between the two cricket boards are moving in a positive direction. The proposed tour will feature three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 International matches.

However, finalising the schedule may be challenging because India’s international calendar is already busy. Zimbabwe are scheduled to visit India for three ODIs between January 3 and 9, followed by the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, which begins on January 21.

Indian Government Approval Remains Key for Bangladesh Tour

The proposed India tour of Bangladesh will depend heavily on approval from the Indian government amid strained diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Relations between the BCCI and BCB also faced difficulties earlier this year. The BCCI had asked Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from its IPL squad.

Following that development, Bangladesh decided against playing its 2026 T20 World Cup matches in India and requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to move its fixtures to Sri Lanka.

However, the situation may be improving following the appointment of Tamim Iqbal as the new BCB chairman. He has reportedly taken positive steps to improve cricketing relations and also travelled to India, where he visited the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Speaking about the proposed series, Tamim expressed optimism about the discussions between the two boards.

“We are discussing a window. Given how our discussions with the BCCI are progressing, I am hopeful that the Indian team will come to Bangladesh for the series. Both Boards are working with a positive mindset,” he was quoted as saying by Bangladesh newspaper Prothom Alo.

India vs Zimbabwe ODI Series May Be Rescheduled

If the Bangladesh tour receives approval, India’s scheduled three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe could be moved to accommodate the six-match assignment.

No official decision regarding changes to the Zimbabwe series has been announced so far. The BCCI will also need to consider India’s upcoming five-match Test series against Australia, beginning January 21, while preparing the revised international schedule.

The packed calendar makes January scheduling an important factor in determining whether the Bangladesh tour can go ahead as planned.

When Did India Last Tour Bangladesh?

India last visited Bangladesh in December 2022. During that tour, the two teams played three ODI matches and two Test matches.

If the proposed January 2027 series gets the necessary approval, it will mark India’s return to Bangladesh for a bilateral cricket tour after more than four years.

For now, cricket fans will have to wait for an official confirmation from the BCCI and BCB regarding the tour dates and final schedule.
