Horror enthusiasts will soon have another film to add to their watchlist as Obsession, one of 2026’s unexpected horror successes, prepares to arrive on Netflix in the United States on November 17. The streaming release comes just two days before Rockstar Games’ scheduled launch of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) on November 19.
Directed by Curry Barker, Obsession stars Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette in a psychological horror story about desire, fixation and the frightening consequences of a wish gone wrong.
Netflix revealed the release date through a teaser posted on social media. The film first opened in US cinemas on May 15 before becoming available on Peacock in July. Its upcoming Netflix debut is expected to bring the movie to a wider streaming audience.
However, the confirmed November 17 date applies to the US market. Netflix has not announced an official release date for India.
What Is Obsession About?
The story centres on Bear, played by Michael Johnston, a young man who has romantic feelings for his friend Nikki, portrayed by Inde Navarrette.
Bear’s life takes a disturbing turn when he discovers a mysterious object called the One Wish Willow and makes a wish that changes his relationship with Nikki in unexpected ways.
What initially appears to offer a chance at romantic fulfilment gradually develops into a troubling psychological horror story. The film explores attraction, emotional dependence and the dangers of attempting to control another person’s feelings.
Obsession also takes inspiration from W. W. Jacobs’ classic short story The Monkey’s Paw, which is known for its themes of wishes and unintended consequences.
Who Is Inde Navarrette, the Actress Playing Nikki?
Inde Navarrette plays Nikki Freeman, a key character in the film’s unsettling storyline. The actress is also known for appearing in the Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why and portraying Sarah Cushing in Superman & Lois.
Her work in Obsession has drawn attention, including her efforts to experience how audiences respond to the film. In an interview with W Magazine, Navarrette revealed that she attended screenings wearing wigs so she could observe viewers’ reactions without being recognised.
The film also features Cooper Tomlinson and Andy Richter alongside Johnston and Navarrette. Its runtime is approximately one hour and 49 minutes.
Is Obsession Releasing on Netflix in India?
As of the announced release information, November 17 is the confirmed Netflix streaming date for the United States. An Indian release date has not yet been announced.
Viewers in India should check their local Netflix listings for updates on whether and when the film will become available in the country. The US release date does not automatically confirm availability in other regions.
The film’s arrival also falls just ahead of the scheduled November 19 launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. The timing places the horror release and the highly anticipated video game launch within the same week, giving fans of both entertainment categories something to look forward to in November.
Disclaimer: Release dates and regional streaming availability may change. Readers should refer to official Netflix announcements and local platform listings for the latest confirmed information.
