Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its new all-electric GT SUV, expanding its performance portfolio into the high-performance electric SUV segment. Developed by the brand’s performance division, the five-seat model shares its platform with the upcoming electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupe and will be available in three variants: GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63.

The GT 53 will arrive first, while the more powerful GT 55 and GT 63 are scheduled to follow in spring 2027. Mercedes-Benz has not yet confirmed whether the electric SUV will launch in India or announced its expected pricing for the market.

Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: Design and Exterior Features

The new AMG GT SUV measures 5,084mm in length, 2,001mm in width and 1,656mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,040mm. Its front design features AMG’s signature vertical-slat grille, LED headlights with star-shaped daytime running lights and an optional illuminated Mercedes emblem.

The SUV gets a sloping roofline, frameless windows and prominent wheel arches, giving it a sporty profile. At the rear, six circular LED tail-lamps define the design, while buyers can opt for a full-width light bar. The GT 55 and GT 63 also feature an active rear spoiler that adjusts according to speed and driving conditions.

Mercedes-AMG claims a drag coefficient of 0.28 for the GT 53 and 0.27 for the two higher variants. Practicality has also been considered, with 607 litres of boot capacity and an additional 78-litre storage compartment under the front bonnet. The Manufaktur personalisation programme offers more than 60 exterior colour options.

Interior, Technology and Comfort

Inside, the electric SUV features a 10.2-inch digital instrument display and a 14-inch central touchscreen. An additional 14-inch screen for the front passenger is available as an option.

The infotainment system uses the latest MBUX software based on Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS platform. It integrates AI assistants and services including ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini.

The cabin also includes AMG-specific applications that allow drivers to monitor performance data, adjust vehicle settings and record track telemetry. Other available equipment includes electrically adjustable performance seats, a panoramic glass roof with adjustable transparency, ambient lighting and a Burmester 4D sound system.

The AMG Performance steering wheel comes with paddle controls for adjusting regenerative braking. Buyers can further personalise the cabin through different upholstery colours and contrasting seat belts.

Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: Power, Performance and Driving Range

The three variants differ significantly in power output, acceleration and battery capacity.

VariantPowerTorque0–100 km/h
GT 53544hp800Nm4.2 seconds
GT 55816hp1,860Nm3.1 seconds
GT 631,169hp2,000Nm2.7 seconds

The GT 53 uses a dual-motor setup and has a claimed top speed of 250km/h. The GT 55 features three electric motors, while the range-topping GT 63 delivers 1,169hp. Both higher-performance variants can reach 270km/h when equipped with the optional Driver’s Package.

Battery specifications also vary by model. The GT 53 comes with a 106kWh battery and a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 668km. The GT 55 and GT 63 use larger 128kWh batteries, with a claimed range of up to 700km.

The SUV’s 800-volt electrical architecture supports DC fast charging at peak rates of up to 600kW for the GT 53 and 710kW for the higher variants. Mercedes-AMG estimates that charging from 10% to 80% will take approximately 11–12 minutes, although these figures remain preliminary.

Suspension, Braking and Special Driving Modes

Rear-wheel steering comes as standard across the range. The SUV also introduces AMG Active Ride Control+ suspension, which uses hydraulic components instead of conventional anti-roll bars to help control body movement during cornering and acceleration. This system is standard on the GT 63.

The flagship variant also receives carbon-ceramic brakes as standard. The GT 55 and GT 63 allow drivers to adjust throttle response, traction control and cornering characteristics using controls on the centre console.

Another feature is the AMGForce Sport+ driving mode, which simulates combustion-engine sounds and gear changes despite the SUV’s fully electric powertrain. The GT 53 reproduces the sound of a six-cylinder engine, while the more powerful versions simulate the sound of an AMG V8.

Mercedes-AMG has not yet disclosed Indian launch plans or pricing for the GT SUV. Further details about its availability in India remain awaited.
