The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across several parts of India on September 28. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in parts of north India, the Northeast and southern states as the southwest monsoon continues its withdrawal from different parts of the country.
Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are likely to remain among the northern regions affected by active weather conditions. The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand on September 28, while Himachal Pradesh may also experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
Parts of Jammu and Kashmir could see thunderstorms and lightning, while East Rajasthan is also expected to witness similar weather activity during the day.
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand Weather
Weather activity remained strong across northern India on September 27, with parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD had also warned of exceptionally heavy rain in some areas.
For September 28, Uttarakhand remains under a heavy rainfall warning. However, the latest IMD subdivision forecast does not include a heavy rainfall warning for Uttar Pradesh or Bihar.
The weather system affecting Uttar Pradesh is expected to move north-northwestwards and gradually weaken. As a result, rainfall activity in the region may decrease.
Rain and Gusty Winds in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Central India
Several areas of western and central India may also receive rainfall on September 28. Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada are likely to experience isolated to scattered showers.
Parts of Maharashtra may also see strong winds moving at 30–40 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 50 kmph.
West Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are also likely to receive isolated to scattered rain. Thunderstorms and lightning may occur in some parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
South India and Northeast Weather Forecast
Rainfall is expected in parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Areas of Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Telangana may also experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
The Northeast is likely to remain active as well, with isolated heavy rainfall possible in some areas. The IMD has forecast continued rain over Assam, Meghalaya and other northeastern states during the coming days.
