Today’s Breaking News LIVE Updates, September 28, 2026: At least 56 people have lost their lives and 46 others have been injured in rain-related incidents across Uttar Pradesh since September 25, according to the office of the relief commissioner. Heavy rainfall has affected 63 districts, while 1,021 houses have been reported damaged.
Sitapur recorded the highest number of deaths at seven. Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich and Balrampur reported five deaths each. Officials have also raised concerns over rising water levels in the Ghagra and Rapti rivers at several locations, particularly in low-lying areas.
In Lucknow, a section of a historic gate collapsed amid the weather conditions. No casualties were reported in the incident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure immediate assistance for people affected by the rain.
Uttarkashi Rescue Operation Continues
Rescue teams in Uttarkashi are continuing efforts to bring back trekkers, mountaineers and porters stranded along high-altitude routes, according to the district administration.
With assistance from personnel of Gangotri National Park, most tourists who were stranded in the Bhojwasa and Chirbasa areas have been evacuated safely.
However, officials said 136 mountaineers, trekkers and support personnel are still located in high-altitude areas. Among them are 18 people at the base camp of Kalindi Pass and 29 at the base camp of Auden’s Col Pass.
Food, Shelter and Medical Assistance Arranged
The district administration is making arrangements for food, accommodation and first aid for those who remain in the high-altitude regions.
The district magistrate is closely monitoring the ongoing rescue and evacuation operation as teams continue working to bring the stranded people to safer locations.
