Milk Scheme: The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to expand its milk production initiative across all 75 districts of the state, with a special emphasis on creating better income opportunities for rural women, farmers and young people.
The initiative aims to strengthen dairy farming at the village level and help rural households build a regular source of income. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya issued the directions during a joint review meeting involving the Food Processing Department and the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission.
Milk Production to Reach Every Village
The government plans to take the dairy initiative to every village across Uttar Pradesh. Women, farmers and youth will be encouraged to participate in milk production and related activities.
At present, around 3.94 lakh women are involved in milk production across 7,220 villages in 42 districts. Together, they produce approximately 10.77 lakh litres of milk every day.
An important achievement is that nearly 72,669 women associated with the sector have become Lakhpati Didis, highlighting the potential of dairy farming as a source of sustainable rural income.
Current Dairy Business in Uttar Pradesh
The state’s dairy sector is already generating significant economic activity. According to the information shared at the meeting, the combined revenue of dairy companies is around ₹5,839 crore, while their net profit stands at approximately ₹133 crore.
Several milk producer companies are contributing to this growing network.
Balini Milk Producer Company
Balini Milk Producer Company has around 95,100 members spread across 1,440 villages in seven districts. The company produces approximately 2.50 lakh litres of milk per day.
Kashi Milk Producer Company
Kashi Milk Producer Company has approximately 55,000 members operating across 1,770 villages in 10 districts. Its daily milk collection is around 1.60 lakh litres.
Samarthya Milk Producer Company
Samarthya Milk Producer Company has nearly 1 lakh members associated with approximately 1,550 villages across 10 districts.
Baba Gorakhnath Kripa Milk Producer Company
This company has about 73,283 members across 1,160 villages in seven districts, making it another significant part of the state’s dairy network.
Srijani Milk Producer Company
Srijani Milk Producer Company has around 71,320 members working across 1,900 villages in eight districts.
Government to Simplify Registration and Documentation
To increase participation, the government plans to conduct awareness campaigns at the village level.
Officials will also work towards making the registration procedure easier for rural residents. This includes simplifying application forms and reducing difficulties related to the required documentation.
Government departments will provide support to women and rural families interested in joining the initiative so that they can access the available opportunities more easily.
Focus on Women’s Economic Empowerment
The dairy initiative is being presented as an important step towards improving the financial independence of rural women.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said the programme supports the broader vision of women’s empowerment, Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the One Crore Lakhpati Didi initiative associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Milk production can provide rural women with a regular income while also creating employment and self-employment opportunities within villages.
Dairy Expansion Could Strengthen the Rural Economy
The government expects the expansion of milk production to benefit not only individual women but also their families and the wider rural economy.
By connecting more women and young people with dairy activities, the initiative could help increase household incomes, generate local employment and strengthen village-level economic activity.
With the proposed expansion covering all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, the government is looking to build a wider rural dairy network while giving women a stronger role in the state’s agricultural and economic development.
