Vanillaware’s classic 2D action-RPG returns with enhanced visuals, expanded gameplay, and all six storylines.
Fans of classic action RPGs have a reason to look forward to early 2027, as Muramasa: Revenant Blades is officially preparing for its western release. The modern revival of Vanillaware’s acclaimed 2009 title Muramasa: The Demon Blade is scheduled to launch on February 4, 2027.
Ahead of the release, Marvelous USA has unveiled an extended gameplay showcase featuring around 10 minutes of footage. The video provides a closer look at the remastered adventure and some of the upgrades coming to modern platforms.
Muramasa: Revenant Blades Showcases Updated Gameplay
The newly released gameplay footage highlights how Muramasa: Revenant Blades has been adapted for current hardware while retaining the distinctive 2D visual style that made the original game stand out.
The upcoming release brings several improvements, including enhanced visuals, revised combat mechanics, new weapon systems, and additional gameplay options. Players will also be able to experience the game with support for resolutions of up to 4K.
Originally released on the Nintendo Wii in 2009, Muramasa: The Demon Blade later received an expanded PlayStation Vita release titled Muramasa Rebirth in 2013. Revenant Blades incorporates all of the content introduced in the Vita version while adding further improvements for modern audiences.
Six Playable Stories Available From the Beginning
One of the biggest highlights of Muramasa: Revenant Blades is its collection of six distinct storylines.
The game brings back the original protagonists Momohime and Kisuke, while also including Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru, and Rajaki, who were introduced through the PlayStation Vita release.
Players will have the freedom to select and experience all six storylines in whichever order they prefer from the beginning, offering considerable flexibility for those who want to explore the different characters and narratives.
The game also features an updated localization, complete with English voice acting, making the classic adventure more accessible to western players.
Muramasa: Revenant Blades Platforms and Editions
Muramasa: Revenant Blades will launch digitally as well as in physical form. The game is coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
A special Limited Edition will also be available for collectors. It includes the game in a specially designed package alongside an art book, a 10-track soundtrack CD, and a 10 x 14-inch tabletop byōbu folding screen.
With its upgraded presentation, expanded gameplay features, and complete collection of story content, Muramasa: Revenant Blades aims to bring Vanillaware’s celebrated action RPG to a new generation while preserving the spirit of the original.
