Rail passengers are set to face major changes in train services as railway authorities undertake bridge-linking and track-related work in Bihar. Work is underway to connect the new bridge at Rajendra Pul station with the double-line system and establish a primary line connection between Dinkar Gram Simaria and Barauni stations.
Pre-non-interlocking work will begin on September 21, followed by non-interlocking work scheduled to continue until October 4. The work will affect operations at Rajendra Pul, Hathidah Junction Upper, Tal, Rampur Dumra in the Danapur division of Hajipur, as well as Dinkar Gram Simaria station in the Sonpur division.
Because of the construction work, train operations on several important sections, including Jamalpur, Munger, Bhagalpur, Bhagalpur-Malda and Barauni-Munger, will be affected. A total of 338 train services will be cancelled, while 382 trains will be operated through diverted routes between September 20 and October 4.
Date-Wise List of Cancelled Trains
The number of cancellations will vary from day to day during the work period. Six trains will be cancelled on September 20, followed by 12 on September 21 and 13 on September 22.
On September 23, 15 trains will remain cancelled, while the number will rise to 21 on September 24 and 24 on September 25. A total of 29 trains will be cancelled on September 26, followed by 31 on September 27.
The railway schedule shows 21 cancellations on September 28, 20 on September 29 and 25 on September 30. On October 1 and 2, 32 trains will be cancelled each day. The highest number of cancellations, 36, is scheduled for October 3, while 21 trains will remain cancelled on October 4.
According to information provided by Eastern Railway Kolkata CPRO Shibram Majhi, these changes will result in a total of 338 train services being cancelled during the affected period.
Malda-Patna and Malda-Delhi Trains Also Affected
Several important long-distance services will also be cancelled on selected dates.
Train number 13415 Malda Town-Patna Express will remain cancelled on September 20, 23, 25, 27 and 30, as well as October 2. Its return service, 13416 Patna-Malda Town Express, will not operate on September 21, 24, 26 and 28, and October 1 and 3.
Train number 14003 Malda Town-New Delhi Express will be cancelled on September 22, 26 and 29, along with October 3. The return 14004 New Delhi-Malda Town Express will remain cancelled on September 20, 24 and 27, and October 1.
Several Trains to Follow Alternate Routes
To maintain connectivity during the construction period, several trains will be diverted through Bhagalpur and other alternate routes.
The 13019 Howrah-Kathgodam Bagh Express will operate via Bardhaman-Rampurhat-Sahibganj-Bhagalpur-Munger-Barauni from September 25 to October 3. The 13021 Howrah-Raxaul Mithila Express will follow the alternate route on October 2 and 3, while the 13105 Sealdah-Ballia Express will use the route from September 26 to 29. These trains will receive additional stops at Rampurhat, Sahibganj and Bhagalpur.
On the return journey, the 13020 Kathgodam-Howrah Barh Express will follow the alternate route from September 25 to October 3. The 13022 Raxaul-Howrah Mithila Express will operate through the diverted route on October 3 and 4, while the 13106 Ballia-Sealdah Express will use the route from September 26 to 30. These services will travel through Barauni, Munger, Bhagalpur, Sahibganj, Rampurhat and Bardhaman, with additional halts at Bhagalpur, Sahibganj and Rampurhat.
The Purvanchal Express services will also be diverted. Train numbers 15047, 15049 and 15051 Kolkata-Gorakhpur Purvanchal Express will run via Bardhaman-Rampurhat-Malda Town-Katihar-Barauni, with additional stops at Rampurhat and Malda Town.
In the opposite direction, trains 15048, 15050 and 15052 Gorakhpur-Kolkata Purvanchal Express will travel via Barauni-Katihar-Malda Town-Rampurhat-Bardhaman. These services will also receive additional halts at Malda Town and Rampurhat.
Meanwhile, train numbers 15658 Kamakhya-Delhi Brahmaputra Mail and 15657 Delhi-Kamakhya Brahmaputra Mail will operate through the Grand Cord route via Kiul and Gaya during the affected period.
