Nearly two decades after delivering a memorable performance in Rang De Basanti, actor Siddharth says Bollywood hasn’t offered him the kind of roles he truly wants. While he continues to stay busy with films across multiple South Indian industries, the actor admits that meaningful opportunities from Hindi cinema have been virtually non-existent.
Speaking about his career, Siddharth revealed that he has no regrets about being remembered primarily for Rang De Basanti and is content waiting for projects that genuinely excite him.
Siddharth: ‘I’m Not Being Offered Anything in Bollywood’
Siddharth, who is preparing for the release of Operation Safed Sagar, candidly shared why audiences haven’t seen much of him in Hindi films over the years.
According to the actor, the issue isn’t that he’s turning down Bollywood projects—it’s that he simply isn’t receiving offers that match the kind of work he wants to do.
He said he can only accept or reject roles that come his way, adding that he has been offered “absolutely nothing” in Hindi cinema that aligns with his creative aspirations.
From Rang De Basanti to Operation Safed Sagar
Siddharth made his Hindi film debut in Rang De Basanti (2006), where he portrayed Bhagat Singh and Karan Singhania in the critically acclaimed film that later achieved cult status.
Reflecting on his journey, the actor said he feels fortunate that, nearly 20 years later, he has once again been cast in a patriotic role—this time as Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja in Operation Safed Sagar.
He believes these opportunities are special gifts from the universe and says he never had to lobby or chase such roles.
Happy to Wait for Meaningful Projects
Rather than accepting every offer that comes his way, Siddharth says he’s comfortable waiting—even if it takes years—for projects that truly resonate with him.
He pointed out that while Bollywood hasn’t provided many opportunities, he remains consistently busy working in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and other film industries. For him, meaningful storytelling matters more than the language or location of the project.
The actor added that he’s willing to work wherever interesting cinema takes him, whether that’s in India or abroad.
Family Comes Before a Packed Work Schedule
Siddharth also revealed that maintaining a healthy work-life balance is a conscious choice.
The actor said he has no desire to fill his calendar with back-to-back shoots. Instead, he prefers working for only part of the year so he can spend quality time with his family and wife, actor Aditi Rao Hydari.
According to Siddharth, choosing personal happiness over constant work is a decision he has made willingly.
Grateful for Operation Safed Sagar
The actor described Operation Safed Sagar as one of the most significant experiences of his career and expressed gratitude to the filmmakers for believing in him after such a long gap in Hindi cinema.
Instead of focusing on missed opportunities, Siddharth said he prefers looking at the positive side, thanking the makers for considering him for the role.
He also acknowledged the support of co-stars Dia Mirza and Amrita Bagchi, saying their presence played an important role during the preparation and emotional journey of the film.
Siddharth Remains Open to Bollywood
Although Siddharth has largely shifted his focus to South Indian cinema since Chashme Baddoor, his last Hindi theatrical release, he made it clear that he hasn’t closed the door on Bollywood.
The actor says he remains open to returning to Hindi films if he is offered strong, meaningful characters. Until then, he is happy continuing his work across different film industries while prioritising projects that inspire him and a life that allows time for family.
