India’s newly appointed T20I captain Shreyas Iyer has congratulated the country’s athletes for their exceptional performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, applauding the team’s remarkable medal haul and especially praising the historic success of India’s boxing contingent.
India wrapped up its campaign with an impressive 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze, making it one of the nation’s strongest performances at the Commonwealth Games.

India dominated the boxing competition, finishing at the top of the medal standings in the sport with its best-ever Commonwealth Games performance.
The boxing team secured a record 10 medals, comprising seven gold and three silver medals, surpassing all previous editions of the Games.
The women’s team played a major role in the historic achievement by winning five gold medals, while the men’s squad added two more golds to complete an unforgettable campaign.

The Glasgow campaign marked India’s most successful outing in Commonwealth Games boxing history.
The previous best performance came at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where India won seven boxing medals, including three golds. The 2026 edition surpassed that record with a remarkable haul of seven gold and three silver medals.

Shreyas Iyer’s Focus Returns to Cricket
While celebrating India’s Commonwealth Games success, Shreyas Iyer is also preparing for upcoming cricket assignments after taking charge as India’s T20I captain.
His captaincy stint has seen mixed results so far. India suffered a 0-2 series defeat against Ireland, followed by a 4-0 loss to England in a five-match series. However, the team bounced back strongly by securing a series victory over Zimbabwe in Harare.
