The State Bank of India (SBI) has urged its customers to stay cautious about fraudulent messages circulating in the name of KYC updates. These messages often warn that a customer’s KYC details are about to expire or threaten that their bank account will be blocked unless they complete an immediate update.

How Cyber Fraudsters Are Targeting SBI Customers

Scammers may send messages containing suspicious links and ask customers to download APK files to complete the KYC process. Such links and applications can be dangerous. Opening them or installing apps from unknown sources may expose personal and banking information, compromise mobile phones and put money in bank accounts at risk.

Customers should not act on messages that create urgency or threaten account suspension without first checking whether the information is genuine.

Steps to Stay Safe From Fake KYC Messages

SBI customers should avoid clicking unfamiliar links received through SMS, WhatsApp or other unofficial channels. They should also never install APK files sent by unknown people or sources.

For mobile banking applications, customers should use trusted platforms such as the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. If they receive a suspicious KYC notification, they should verify it directly through SBI’s official communication channels before sharing any information or taking action.

How to Report Online Banking Fraud

Anyone who suspects that they have been targeted by a cyber scam should report the matter immediately. Victims of financial cyber fraud can call the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or submit a complaint through the official website: cybercrime.gov.in.

Remaining alert, checking messages through official banking channels and avoiding unknown downloads can help SBI customers protect their accounts and personal information from cybercriminals.
