The Central Government has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme for another five years, extending it from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The Union Cabinet has approved a total financial outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore for the scheme during this period.

The PM-KISAN scheme was launched in February 2019 to provide direct income support to eligible farmer families across India. Under the programme, beneficiaries receive ₹6,000 every year in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

PM-KISAN: ₹6,000 Annual Support for Eligible Farmers

The financial assistance provided under PM-KISAN can be used by eligible farmers to meet expenses related to agriculture and other household needs. The money is transferred directly into Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts after the required verification, including digital land records and e-KYC.

The scheme has continued to expand its reach since its launch. According to the latest government figures, more than ₹4.47 lakh crore has been transferred directly to farmers through 23 instalments. The 23rd instalment alone benefited more than 9.44 crore farmers, with over ₹18,880 crore transferred through DBT.

Women Farmers Also Receive PM-KISAN Benefits

Women farmers are an important part of the PM-KISAN beneficiary base. Government data released in March 2026 showed that more than ₹1.01 lakh crore had been transferred to women beneficiaries under the scheme since its inception.

During the 23rd instalment, more than 2.18 crore women farmers were among the beneficiaries receiving direct financial assistance.

The use of Aadhaar-based authentication, digital land records, e-KYC and DBT is intended to ensure that financial assistance reaches verified beneficiaries directly without intermediaries.

PM-KISAN Extended for Another Five Years

The Cabinet’s July 31, 2026 decision will keep PM-KISAN operational from 2026-27 through 2030-31, with ₹3.15 lakh crore allocated for the five-year period. The government said the continuation is aimed at providing timely and transparent income support to eligible farmer families.

The extension means eligible farmers will continue to receive the ₹6,000 annual assistance under the existing three-instalment structure, subject to the scheme’s eligibility and verification requirements.
