The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a government housing scheme aimed at helping eligible citizens build or purchase a permanent home. Despite the availability of the scheme, many people are still unable to benefit from it because they do not have complete information about the application process and eligibility requirements.

The government launched the PM Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) with the objective of supporting housing needs in rural areas. The scheme provides financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries so they can construct a permanent house.

How to Apply for PM Awas Yojana

Applications for PM Awas Yojana can be made through both online and offline modes. For an online application, applicants can visit the official website of the scheme. A valid Aadhaar card is required during the application process.

Those who want to apply offline can visit a Common Service Center (CSC) and submit the required form. The form costs ₹25 plus GST.

PM Awas Yojana-Gramin is specifically intended for eligible people living in rural areas. To make the application process easier, the government has also introduced a mobile-based Awas App.

Apply Through the Awas App

Applicants can use the PM Awas Yojana app to complete the application process. The basic steps are:

First, download the PM Awas Yojana app from the Google Play Store. After that, register using your mobile number. An OTP will be sent to the registered number. Enter the OTP to log in and then provide the required information in the application form.

PM Awas Yojana Benefits and Eligibility

Under PMAY-Gramin, eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance for constructing their own homes. The scheme also provides a loan facility of up to ₹6 lakh at an annual interest rate of up to 6%. If additional funds are required for house construction, the extra amount has to be borrowed at the applicable interest rate.

The scheme covers different income groups. Economically Weaker Section (EWS) households with annual income of up to ₹3 lakh and Low-Income Group (LIG) households with annual income between ₹3 lakh and ₹6 lakh are included. Middle-Income Group (MIG) households with annual income between ₹6 lakh and ₹12 lakh are also covered.

Women from the EWS and LIG categories, along with people belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC), can also receive benefits under the scheme.

How to Check Your Name in the PMAY-G Beneficiary List

After receiving housing applications, the Central Government selects eligible beneficiaries and publishes the final beneficiary list. Applicants who have applied for housing assistance under PMAY-Gramin can check whether their name appears on the list.

To check the beneficiary list, visit the official PM Awas Yojana website and select the ‘Search Beneficiary’ option from the top menu. Enter your name in the required field. The system will display a list of people with matching names. Select your name from the list to view the available beneficiary details.
