A disturbing incident at a government primary school in Panchkula, Haryana, has raised serious concerns about student safety and supervision in schools. An eight-year-old Class 3 student allegedly attacked a six-year-old girl inside an empty classroom. The victim’s uncle, Fazil, has claimed that the boy was regularly playing violent mobile games, including PUBG, which may have influenced his aggressive behaviour.
The incident came to public attention after CCTV footage surfaced, showing the boy repeatedly punching and kicking the younger student before throwing heavy objects at her. The girl suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. She regained consciousness after approximately 40 hours.
How the Attack Took Place Inside the School
According to Fazil, the incident began when the boy teased the girl and called her crazy. When she objected to his comments, the boy allegedly persuaded her to enter an empty classroom.
Once inside, he reportedly locked the door and attacked her. The CCTV footage later revealed the severity of the assault, including the use of heavy, blunt objects.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Fazil alleged that the boy had developed aggressive behaviour because of his interest in violent video games.
He said the child regularly played action-based games, including PUBG, and claimed that the boy’s father had also confirmed his gaming habits.
However, the alleged connection between video games and the incident remains a claim made by the victim’s family.
Victim’s Health Condition Improves
Providing an update on the girl’s condition, her uncle said she is now stable and out of danger.
According to Fazil, the child has been receiving proper medical attention over the past two to three days. Doctors are closely monitoring her recovery, and her health has improved compared with her initial condition.
She was admitted to PGIMER Chandigarh following the attack, where medical teams provided treatment for her serious injuries.
Haryana Government Takes Action Against School Staff
Following the incident and concerns about the lack of supervision, the Haryana Education Department suspended two Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers over alleged negligence.
The Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (HSCPCR) has also intervened in the matter. It has directed the District Education Officer to submit a detailed report explaining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In addition, the state government has formed a five-member inquiry committee to investigate the case. A statewide safety audit of government schools has also been announced to review security arrangements and student safety measures.
Education Minister Assures Strict Action
Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda has stated that the administration will take strict action against anyone found responsible for negligence.
The investigation is expected to examine how the incident occurred inside the school and whether adequate supervision and safety arrangements were in place.
The case has brought renewed attention to the importance of child protection, classroom monitoring and safety measures in government schools.
