Getting information about your Provident Fund (PF), pension and insurance has become more convenient for employees. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) officially introduced its WhatsApp service on November 1, 2026, allowing members to access important PF account details directly through their mobile phones.

With this facility, employees can simply send a ‘Hi’ message to the designated EPFO WhatsApp number, 8796441800, to access the available services. The initiative aims to make routine PF-related enquiries easier without requiring members to visit an EPFO office or navigate its official website.

However, some users initially reported problems on social media platform X, including difficulties receiving OTPs during the verification process. The designated WhatsApp number is now operational, and members can save it in their contacts to start using the service.

What Services Can You Access Through EPFO WhatsApp?

The new EPFO WhatsApp facility allows members to check several important details related to their PF accounts. The available services include:

  • PF Balance: Check the available balance in your EPF account.
  • PF Passbook: Access details of your PF passbook.
  • Last 5 Transactions: View information about your five most recent PF transactions.

These services are designed to help employees obtain basic account information quickly through WhatsApp.

How to Check PF Balance Through EPFO WhatsApp

Members can start using the EPFO WhatsApp service by following a few simple steps.

  1. Save the official EPFO WhatsApp number, 8796441800, in your mobile contacts.
  2. Open WhatsApp and start a conversation with the saved number.
  3. Send a ‘Hi’ message to begin the process.
  4. Complete the required verification procedure.
  5. Once verified, select the service you want to access, such as PF balance or transaction history.

Members can also start a conversation by scanning the official QR code provided by EPFO.

One important requirement is that the mobile number used for the WhatsApp service must be linked to the member’s Universal Account Number (UAN). After successful verification, users can select the relevant options and view their PF information.

The biggest convenience of this facility is that employees can access routine PF account information directly through WhatsApp instead of visiting an EPFO office for basic enquiries.

EPFO Introduces Automatic Transfer for Inactive PF Accounts

Along with digital services, EPFO has also announced a facility to simplify the transfer of money from inactive provident fund accounts.

Union Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya introduced the automatic transfer facility during the organisation’s 74th Foundation Day celebration.

Under this provision, members with Aadhaar-verified inactive EPF accounts holding a balance of up to ₹1,000 will not need to submit a separate claim to receive the amount. The transfer will be processed automatically, reducing the paperwork and effort required from eligible subscribers.
