Monsoon Update: The monsoon continues to remain active across several parts of India, with heavy rainfall being reported in multiple states. Flood-related problems are also continuing in Bihar, while rainfall in Delhi-NCR brought some relief from humid conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for September 12, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across several regions. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are among the areas expected to experience unsettled weather.
Hilly states have also been placed under caution because of the possibility of landslides, while parts of eastern India could experience intense lightning and thunderstorms.
Rain and Storm Alert Issued for 24 States
According to the weather forecast, rainfall and thunderstorm alerts have been issued for around 24 states on September 12.
The states mentioned in the forecast include Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Assam and Tripura, among others.
Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during periods of intense rainfall, lightning and strong winds.
Delhi Weather: Rain and Strong Winds Expected
Delhi has been issued a warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms on September 12. Winds could reach speeds of around 50–60 kmph during the period.
The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain around 33°C, while the minimum temperature could be close to 27°C.
Recent rainfall in Delhi-NCR has provided some relief from the humidity, although rainfall intensity has varied across different parts of the region.
Uttar Pradesh May Receive Heavy Rain
Several districts of Uttar Pradesh are also under a heavy rain and thunderstorm alert.
The districts mentioned in the forecast include:

- Aligarh
- Agra
- Mathura
- Kanpur
- Ambedkar Nagar
- Varanasi
- Prayagraj
- Deoria
- Gorakhpur

Bihar Faces Continued Rainfall Concerns
Bihar is already dealing with flood-related difficulties, and additional rainfall could add to the problems in several districts.
Heavy rain and thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Patna, Gaya, Jehanabad, West Champaran, East Champaran, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Siwan, Buxar, Bhojpur, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Bhagalpur and Begusarai.
Residents in flood-affected areas should follow local administration and weather department advisories.
Jharkhand Under Heavy Rain Alert
Several parts of Jharkhand may also receive heavy rainfall. The districts listed under the alert include Gumla, Garhwa, Simdega, Ranchi, West Singhbhum, Dhanbad, Giridih and Bokaro.
Heavy showers could result in waterlogging and difficult travel conditions in vulnerable locations.
Uttarakhand: Rain and Thunderstorm Warning
The weather department has also issued alerts for several districts of Uttarakhand.
Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Almora, Bageshwar and Nainital may experience heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Given the terrain, heavy rainfall can increase the risk of landslides and disruption on mountain roads. Travellers should check local advisories before heading towards hilly areas.
Punjab and Rajasthan Also on Alert
Several districts of Punjab are expected to experience heavy rainfall. The areas mentioned include Pathankot, Barnala, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur and Patiala.
Rajasthan has also been included in the weather alert. Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Pali, Bikaner, Udaipur, Jaipur and Bharatpur are among the districts where heavy rain has been forecast.
Stay Alert During Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain
With rainfall activity continuing across different parts of the country, residents should keep an eye on official weather updates. During thunderstorms, it is advisable to remain indoors where possible and avoid standing near trees, open fields, electric poles or other exposed locations.
