Akshay Kumar’s popular 1994 action thriller Mohra is set to return to cinemas in a 4K remastered version, bringing a dose of nostalgia to the Diwali 2026 box office. The film, directed by Rajiv Rai and featuring Suniel Shetty and Raveena Tandon alongside Akshay, will be re-released on November 6, 2026.
Its theatrical return comes just a day after the scheduled worldwide release of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1, starring Ranbir Kapoor. The overlapping release dates set up an interesting box office contest between a much-loved 1990s action film and a major mythological production.
Mohra Returns to Theatres in 4K
Originally released on July 1, 1994, Mohra became one of the biggest commercial successes of its time. The film’s remastered version aims to offer improved picture and sound quality, allowing longtime fans to revisit the classic while introducing it to a new generation of moviegoers.
The re-release is being handled by Trimurti Films Pvt. Ltd. and Rimpy Films International, as the return of older films to cinemas continues to attract attention.
Directed by Rajiv Rai and produced by his father, Gulshan Rai, under the Trimurti Films banner, Mohra combined action, suspense and a memorable musical score. It collected ₹22.65 crore at the box office, becoming the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 1994.
Alongside Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Raveena Tandon, the cast includes Naseeruddin Shah as antagonist Sandeep Jindal. Paresh Rawal, Gulshan Grover, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Raza Murad and Poonam Jhawer also feature in important roles.
Mohra vs Ramayana: Diwali 2026 Box Office Clash
The re-release of Mohra on November 6 will follow the November 5 worldwide debut of Ramayana: Part 1. With Diwali falling on November 8 and the festival period running from November 6 to November 10, both films are positioned to attract audiences during the holiday season.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Part 1 is the first instalment of a planned two-part adaptation of the Indian epic. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi portrays Sita, and Yash takes on the role of Ravana.
The project is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The reported franchise budget is ₹4,000 crore for both parts, including release and promotional expenses.
Sony Pictures is handling international distribution outside India, while Dharma Productions is responsible for the Hindi-speaking market. The film is also scheduled for a worldwide IMAX release.
Another potential competitor during the same period is the Japanese monster film Godzilla Minus One, which is expected to arrive in Indian cinemas around that time.
Mohra’s Evergreen Music and Lasting Popularity
Beyond its story of revenge, loyalty and betrayal, Mohra remains widely remembered for its hit soundtrack. Composed by Viju Shah, with lyrics by Indeevar and Anand Bakshi, the album featured songs that became popular across generations.
Tracks such as “Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast,” sung by Udit Narayan and Kavita Krishnamurthy, and “Tip Tip Barsa Paani,” performed by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan, remain among the film’s most recognisable musical highlights.
The soundtrack sold more than 8 million units, making it the second-highest-selling Bollywood music album of 1994.
The film also marked the first collaboration between Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal, who later appeared together in several successful films. Their association remains an important part of Mohra’s legacy.
More Trimurti Films Classics Set for Re-Releases
The return of Mohra comes amid renewed interest in revisiting popular films from the 1990s. Other Trimurti Films titles, including Gupt, Tridev and Yudh, are also scheduled for theatrical re-releases.
With its 4K restoration, well-known cast and enduring music, Mohra is preparing for another big-screen outing after more than three decades. Its release alongside Ramayana: Part 1 adds another talking point to the Diwali 2026 cinema calendar, giving audiences a choice between a nostalgic action thriller and a new mythological epic.
