Gachibowli police have registered a case against seven social media accounts following a complaint from actor Vijay Deverakonda’s team alleging online harassment, defamatory posts and the circulation of objectionable content targeting the actor and his family. The development comes amid growing online controversy surrounding Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna’s appearance on Koffee with Karan.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complaint was filed on October 5, 2026, by P Nishanth, 36, who works as Vijay Deverakonda’s social media manager.
Complaint Alleges Threats, Abusive Posts and Manipulated Images
In his complaint, Nishanth alleged that several accounts on X, had repeatedly published and circulated morphed photographs, manipulated images, threatening content, vulgar comments and defamatory statements targeting the actor.
The complaint also claimed that Vijay’s family members and relatives had been subjected to obscene and humiliating remarks concerning their personal lives and family matters. According to Nishanth, the alleged posts caused emotional distress and damaged their reputation and dignity.
He further informed the police that screenshots, post URLs, photographs, videos and other digital materials related to the alleged harassment had been preserved and submitted as evidence.
Following the complaint, Gachibowli police registered a case under Crime No. 1792/2026. The FIR invokes Sections 351(2), 352, 356(1) and 294(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. The investigation has been assigned to DI Naresh.
Confirming the case, a police official said, “Ten days ago we received a written complaint from actor Vijay Deverakonda’s team. We have registered a case and are investigating the matter.”
Couple’s Team Approaches Hyderabad Cyber Crime Authorities
Separately, the couple’s team has filed a formal complaint with Hyderabad Cyber Crime authorities, seeking an impartial investigation into online content allegedly targeting Vijay and Rashmika.
The complaint reportedly identifies material circulated across social media platforms, including alleged false narratives, fabricated content, manipulated screenshots, impersonation and targeted online harassment. Relevant links and supporting digital evidence have been submitted to the authorities for examination.
In a statement, Vijay’s team expressed hope that the matter would be investigated in accordance with the law. It also said that any coordinated or paid campaigns aimed at spreading misleading narratives should be addressed appropriately if established through evidence.
“Every identified instance of publishing, reposting or amplifying potentially unlawful content may be examined on its own merits. Appropriate legal remedies will be pursued wherever warranted, in accordance with due process,” the statement read.
An official police confirmation regarding this separate complaint is still awaited.
Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna Respond to Online Trolling
On Monday afternoon, both Vijay and Rashmika addressed the ongoing controversy through posts on their respective Instagram accounts.
Vijay expressed his support for his wife and reaffirmed their happiness together. In his post, he described Rashmika as his best friend and wife, calling their relationship one of the most beautiful parts of his life. He also stated that they were “gloriously happy” and said he was prepared to stand by her regardless of criticism from others.
The actor ended his message by expressing affection for those who celebrate love while delivering a strong response to those targeting the couple.
Rashmika also shared her thoughts on the controversy, explaining that she generally avoids responding to public opinions because she believes people are entitled to their perspectives. However, she said the reaction to their interview appeared to have gone beyond ordinary criticism.
In her Instagram post, she described the online response as resembling an angry mob searching for someone to target. She added that she wanted to speak up in support of people who believe in love and hoped that everyone would find their own version of it.
The actress also highlighted Vijay’s support during difficult moments in her life. She explained that he had been there for her during physical discomfort, hospital visits, anxiety and emotional breakdowns.
“When I snap a bone, you aren’t there. He is,” Rashmika wrote, describing how Vijay had supported her through various personal challenges. She concluded by asking people not to worry about either of them.

The controversy intensified after the couple’s appearance on Koffee with Karan, which aired last week. Several clips from the episode circulated on social media, prompting mixed reactions from viewers.
