There is some relief for commercial LPG buyers as 19-kg cylinders are reportedly available at discounted prices in parts of rural Uttar Pradesh. The development comes after restrictions on the supply of commercial LPG during the initial phase of the Iran-US conflict in April-May.
At present, commercial LPG cylinders are readily available in the market, and some gas agencies are offering them below the government-approved rate. The trend has particularly been noticed in rural areas of Kushinagar district.
Where Are Commercial LPG Cylinders Being Sold Cheaper?
In some parts of rural Uttar Pradesh, gas distributors are reportedly selling 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders for around ₹200 to ₹600 less than the standard price.
In Kushinagar, the listed price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder is around ₹2,946. However, some customers are reportedly purchasing the same cylinders for between ₹2,400 and ₹2,700.
The discounted rates are being seen at certain agencies rather than representing a nationwide change in the official LPG price.
Why Are Commercial LPG Cylinders Available at Lower Prices?
The lower selling price is reportedly not the result of a reduction announced by oil marketing companies (OMCs).
Commercial LPG cylinders are mainly used by restaurants, hotels, food vendors, sweet shops and catering businesses. Demand for these cylinders can be comparatively lower in rural areas and smaller towns.
As a result, some distributors may have excess commercial LPG stock. Discounted sales are being offered by certain agencies to reduce this surplus and clear their inventory.
Domestic LPG Cylinder Prices Remain Unchanged
There has been no change in the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder used by households.
The current prices mentioned are ₹944 in Delhi, ₹941.50 in Mumbai, ₹968.50 in Kolkata and ₹947.50 in Chennai.
The official price of the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder also remains unchanged at the national level. In Delhi, the listed price is ₹2,747.50.
Therefore, the lower prices being reported in some rural markets should not be confused with an official nationwide reduction in commercial LPG rates.
