Domestic LPG cylinder prices, along with CNG and PNG rates, remained unchanged across major Indian cities on October 9, 2026, according to the provided price details. The stability offers some relief to household consumers and vehicle owners amid elevated energy prices. However, commercial LPG cylinders continue to reflect the price increase announced at the beginning of October.

Fuel prices differ across cities because of local taxes, distribution expenses and the pricing policies of city gas distributors. While LPG is a major household cooking expense, CNG affects vehicle running costs and PNG is commonly used for cooking in homes connected to piped gas networks.

In parts of Uttar Pradesh, CNG prices were recently increased by up to ₹3.25 per kg. The reported reasons include higher input gas costs, rising spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices and currency fluctuations.

As of October 9, the listed prices in Delhi were ₹942 for a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder, ₹86.98 per kg for CNG and ₹49.59 per standard cubic metre (SCM) for PNG. Consumers should check local rates before booking a cylinder or refuelling.

US-Iran Conflict and Global Oil Prices

Global crude oil prices rose sharply on October 8 amid escalating risks to commercial shipping in the Middle East and concerns about an approaching storm in the Gulf of Mexico.

Iran intensified attacks on commercial tankers travelling through the Strait of Hormuz, with nine vessels reportedly targeted in and around the strategic waterway over the preceding week. The incidents raised concerns about the recovery in crude oil shipments passing through the route.

Brent crude futures climbed 4% to close at $104.28 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures increased 3.6% to settle at $91.49 per barrel.

Despite the security concerns, oil exports from the Gulf have recovered significantly in recent days, according to maritime experts and tracking data. Kpler, a maritime intelligence firm, reported that Gulf oil flows excluding Iran reached more than 81% of pre-war levels in September. Crude exports from the wider Middle East also exceeded pre-war levels on 14 days during the month.

However, the improvement in shipments has coincided with an increase in tanker attacks and higher freight, insurance and security expenses for shipping companies.

US President Donald Trump said that “millions of barrels” of oil had passed through the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, claiming that transit volumes were approaching or exceeding levels recorded before the war.
