The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a proposal to rename Noida International Airport at Jewar as Narendra Modi International Airport. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the decision during a press conference on Friday, following a state cabinet meeting chaired by him.

The airport is an important infrastructure project for Uttar Pradesh and the wider Delhi-NCR region. It is expected to provide an additional international aviation hub and help ease passenger traffic at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).

What Makes Jewar Airport Special?

Noida International Airport is spread across more than 1,300 hectares and has been designed to handle approximately 12 million passengers annually, according to the information provided.

Once operational at the planned capacity, the airport will serve as the second international airport for the Delhi-NCR region. Its development is expected to support growing air travel demand and reduce pressure on existing airport facilities.

The project is also designed to provide passengers with access to multiple transportation options, making it easier to travel between the airport and surrounding cities.

Metro, High-Speed Rail and Parking Facilities

The airport’s ground transportation centre is planned as a multi-modal transit hub, bringing together different modes of transport in one location.

Facilities are expected to include metro connectivity, high-speed rail services, taxis, buses and parking spaces for private vehicles. These arrangements are intended to improve passenger convenience and provide smoother connections with nearby urban centres.

Plans also include linking Jewar Airport with the proposed Delhi-Varanasi high-speed rail corridor. The project is expected to strengthen transport connectivity across the region.

Delhi-NCR Connectivity and Net-Zero Emissions Target

According to the information provided, the planned journey between Delhi and Noida International Airport could take around 21 minutes through the proposed connectivity arrangements.

The airport has also been described as aiming to become India’s first airport to achieve net-zero emissions. This environmental objective forms part of its broader development vision.

The planned transport links and sustainability targets are expected to be important features of the airport as the project progresses.

Yogi Adityanath Highlights Uttar Pradesh’s Development

During his remarks, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s connection with Uttar Pradesh and the state’s development under the combined efforts of the central and state governments.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s 2014 visit to Kashi, Yogi recalled Modi’s statement that Mother Ganga had called him. He said the relationship that began with Kashi and the Ganga had strengthened over the years and had become part of the state’s broader transformation.

The chief minister also said Uttar Pradesh had faced administrative instability, concerns about public safety and shortages of basic facilities before 2017. He added that the state had since adopted a different approach to governance, focusing on law and order, modern infrastructure, good governance and creating a more investment-friendly environment.

Yogi said the state was moving towards further progress through cooperation between the central and state governments and the spirit of Team India.
