Iran-US Tensions: Iran has issued a strong warning that it could target key US energy infrastructure across the Middle East if Washington or Israel launches fresh military strikes against the country. The latest threat comes after US President Donald Trump indicated that further military action against Tehran remains an option.
The escalating exchange highlights growing tensions in the region, raising fresh concerns over the security of critical energy facilities and major global shipping routes.
Iran Says It Has Prepared ‘Extensive Response Plans’
According to Iran’s state-affiliated Tasnim News Agency, a senior Iranian security official dismissed reports of possible US-Israeli attacks on Iranian infrastructure as “a kind of madness.”
The official claimed Tehran has already developed “extensive response plans” and warned that any military assault would trigger retaliatory strikes against strategic targets in Israel as well as US energy facilities across the region.
The report further quoted the official as saying that Iran’s armed forces possess both the capability and determination to carry out such operations if required.
White House Accuses Iran of Violating Ceasefire
The warning from Tehran came shortly after the White House accused Iran of escalating tensions despite last month’s ceasefire agreement.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt alleged that Iran had violated the truce and continued hostile actions in the region.
She stated that President Trump would not tolerate what she described as terrorist activities and warned that Iran would continue to face consequences until it returned to negotiations under conditions acceptable to Washington.
Trump Signals Possibility of Further Military Action
Speaking to reporters at Camp David, President Donald Trump suggested that additional military action against Iran remains under consideration.
“We just want to win,” Trump said while discussing the ongoing conflict.
He also warned that the United States would “hit them very hard,” adding that continued pressure could eventually force Iran back to the negotiating table.
The remarks have further intensified speculation that Washington may expand its military operations if regional hostilities continue.
Fresh Escalation in the Gulf Region
The diplomatic war of words unfolded alongside another day of heightened military activity in the Gulf.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for attacking two oil tankers attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes for global oil shipments.
Iranian state media also reported that four additional tankers turned back before entering the waterway, reflecting growing security concerns in the region.
Kuwait Reports Drone Incursion
Separately, Kuwait announced that its air defence systems intercepted Iranian drones that had entered its airspace while allegedly targeting military installations hosting US forces.
According to Kuwait’s Defence Ministry, debris from the intercepted drones caused material damage, although no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Regional Tensions Continue to Rise
The latest exchange of threats between Iran and the United States underscores the fragile security situation across the Middle East. With warnings of retaliation, attacks on commercial shipping, and growing concerns over energy infrastructure, the risk of further escalation remains high.
Any disruption to critical routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of the world’s oil exports passes, could have major implications for global energy markets and regional stability.
