New Delhi: Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are expected to experience mostly dry weather over the next few days, with no fresh rainfall forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Partly cloudy conditions were reported on Saturday, but skies are expected to become clearer from Sunday as post-monsoon weather settles across northwest India.
According to the IMD forecast, Delhi’s maximum temperature is likely to remain between 31°C and 33°C on Saturday. Similar daytime temperatures are expected on Sunday and Monday, October 19, while minimum temperatures could fall to between 18°C and 20°C, bringing cooler conditions at night.
The weather department does not anticipate any major weather activity across northwest, central, eastern or northeastern India during the week. Most parts of the northern plains are therefore likely to experience relatively stable autumn weather.
Heavy Rainfall Warning for Southern States
While northern India is expected to remain largely dry, several southern states are likely to receive heavy rainfall over the coming days.
The IMD has forecast that the wet spell over southern peninsular India will continue until October 23, 2026. Isolated very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is possible in Tamil Nadu on October 17 and October 20.
On October 17, heavy rainfall is also forecast in parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala.
The expected downpours could affect local traffic and daily activities in vulnerable areas. Residents, commuters and local authorities have been advised to remain alert to the possibility of waterlogging and travel disruptions.
Maharashtra Weather: Heat and Humidity Continue
Parts of western India are continuing to experience warm and humid conditions, particularly across Konkan and Goa. Mumbai and neighbouring districts of Maharashtra have recorded temperatures close to 35°C, indicating that cooler winter-like weather has yet to arrive in the region.
Meteorologists have attributed the unusually warm conditions to delayed sea breezes and an anti-cyclonic circulation over Gujarat and southwest Madhya Pradesh.
Although temperatures remain high, the region could also experience thunderstorms and strong winds over the next few days.
Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected Until October 20
The IMD has warned of isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Konkan, Goa and Marathwada through October 19. Wind speeds could reach 40–50 km/h, with gusts of up to 60 km/h.
Central Maharashtra is also likely to experience isolated thunderstorm activity until at least Tuesday, October 20.
Residents in the affected areas should follow local weather advisories, particularly during thunderstorms and periods of strong winds.
