HDFC Bank customers have an important update regarding branch operations during the upcoming bank employees’ strike. Public sector banks and regional rural banks will remain operational on Sunday, September 27, following directions issued to minimise disruption ahead of the proposed strike from September 28 to 30.

HDFC Bank, which is a private sector lender, has also informed its customers through email that its branches will function normally on Sunday. The bank has indicated that its regular operations will continue from September 28 to 30 as well.

Why Will Banks Be Open on Sunday?

September 26 is the fourth Saturday of the month, when banks normally remain closed. However, public sector banks and regional rural banks have been directed to operate on Sunday, September 27, in view of the proposed strike.

The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions and is scheduled from September 28 to September 30. The unions have raised several demands, including a five-day working week and concerns over employees being required to sell financial products such as insurance and mutual funds.

The impact is expected to be more significant for public sector banking operations, while private sector banks such as HDFC Bank are expected to continue their normal services.

HDFC Bank Customers Can Continue Regular Banking

HDFC Bank has communicated to customers that its operations will continue as usual on September 27 and during the September 28–30 period.

Customers can also continue using digital banking facilities during the strike period. UPI, net banking and ATM services are expected to remain available, allowing customers to carry out essential transactions even if some physical banking operations are affected.

SBI Announces Free ATM Transactions

State Bank of India (SBI) has also announced a special measure for its customers during the strike period. The bank has said that its branches will remain open from September 28 to 30, although some regular services could face delays because of the employee strike.

SBI has also announced that its customers can use any bank’s ATM across the country without paying transaction charges from September 28 to 30. This will allow customers to withdraw cash from ATMs without incurring the usual applicable charges.

The country’s largest public sector bank has advised customers to complete important banking work in advance wherever possible to avoid inconvenience during the strike.
