Bollywood actress Radhikka Madan has spoken about her experience with body-shaming in the film industry, recalling how criticism of her weight affected her health and self-image. In an interview published on October 12, 2026, the actress also expressed solidarity with Katrina Kaif amid discussions surrounding the scrutiny women face over changes in their appearance.
Madan shared how her physical transformations for film roles became a reason for criticism, despite the effort she put into her work. Her account highlights the pressure actresses often face to meet changing beauty standards, regardless of their natural body type or the demands of a particular role.
Radhikka Madan Recalls Being Called ‘Too Fat’
Madan, who turned 31 on May 1, 2026, recalled gaining 15 kilograms for her Bollywood debut, Pataakha (2018), directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. She subsequently began losing weight while working on Shiddat and Angrezi Medium.
During this period, she said, people criticised her appearance and questioned whether she could become a leading actress.
“I had gained 15 kgs for Pataakha, and I was losing that weight through Shiddat and Angrezi Medium,” Madan explained. Recalling the remarks directed at her, she said she was told, “Too fat. Heroine kaise banegi ye” (How will she become an actor?).
The comments pushed her to focus intensely on losing weight while working on films back-to-back. However, the process eventually began to affect her health.
“I kept losing weight and shooting back-to-back, and fully became like bones. It started affecting my health, so I took a break,” she revealed.
The experience made her reconsider the importance she had given to other people’s opinions. Madan pointed out that while she was initially criticised for being overweight, losing weight only led to a different set of comments.
“Earlier, I was too fat, now I was too thin, and in between, I was neither here nor there. I asked myself, why am I trying to please people when they will never be happy?” she said.
Radhikka Madan Extends Support to Katrina Kaif
Madan’s remarks come amid discussions about Katrina Kaif and the reported scrutiny surrounding her postpartum weight changes. By sharing her own experiences, Madan highlighted how women in the entertainment industry often face criticism about their bodies, with expectations changing according to their appearance.
Her comments underline the challenges actresses encounter when their physical appearance becomes a subject of public discussion, even as they navigate professional commitments and personal changes.
Madan’s experience also reflects how pressure to achieve a particular body type can have consequences beyond appearance, particularly when weight loss begins to affect physical well-being.
Radhikka Madan on Beauty Standards and Cosmetic Procedures
Apart from weight-related criticism, Madan has previously spoken about the pressure actresses face to meet industry beauty standards. She has recalled receiving suggestions about cosmetic treatments, including Botox and fillers, as well as comments about changing certain facial features.
The actress has clarified that she does not judge people who choose cosmetic procedures to feel more confident about their appearance. She has also indicated that she remains open to the possibility of undergoing such treatments herself in the future, depending on how she feels about her appearance at that time.
Her perspective reflects a personal approach to beauty choices, emphasising that decisions about cosmetic enhancements depend on individual preferences rather than external expectations.
Radhikka Madan’s Recent Projects
Alongside her comments on body-shaming and beauty standards, Madan has continued her work across film and streaming projects. She was recently seen in Subedaar, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on March 5, 2026. She also featured in Netflix’s Lust Stories 3, which premiered on September 18, 2026.
Through her latest revelations, Madan has brought attention to the pressures surrounding body image in the entertainment industry. Her account highlights the importance of prioritising health and personal well-being rather than constantly trying to meet expectations that can change over time.
