Central government employees are awaiting the next revision in Dearness Allowance (DA), which is due from July 2026. The latest All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) data has strengthened expectations of another increase.

The June 2026 AICPI-IW reading stood at 151.9, taking the average for the 12-month period from July 2025 to June 2026 to 148.65. Based on the applicable calculation, the DA works out to around 63.76%. Since the government announces DA as a whole percentage, reports have projected the next rate at 63%, subject to the government’s final approval.

What Is the Current DA Rate?

The Union Cabinet approved a 2% increase in DA in April 2026, raising the rate from 58% to 60% of basic pay. The increase was made effective from January 1, 2026.

The next revision will apply from July 1, 2026, once approved by the government. If the expected 3% increase is approved, the DA rate would rise from the current 60% to 63%.

How Is the Next DA Hike Calculated?

The DA revision is linked to the AICPI-IW data released by the Labour Bureau. For the July 2026 revision, the relevant 12-month period is July 2025 through June 2026.

The average AICPI-IW for these 12 months is 148.65. Applying the prescribed formula results in a calculated DA rate of approximately 63.76%. Reports have therefore been estimating a 63% DA rate after the government takes the final decision.

When Can the DA Announcement Be Expected?

The exact announcement date has not been officially confirmed. Previous DA revisions have often been announced around the festive period, but there is no fixed requirement that the announcement must be made on a particular festival or date.

For reference, the government approved the previous 2% DA increase on April 18, 2026, with the revised rate effective from January 1, 2026.

Therefore, employees will need to wait for the Finance Ministry and Union Cabinet to formally approve and announce the July 2026 DA revision.
