Iran News: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has made a rare public statement about Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, acknowledging that direct communication with him is currently “very difficult.” Despite this, the president emphasized that Khamenei continues to play a crucial role in guiding the country’s leadership during a period of heightened regional tensions.
Speaking in an interview with Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, Pezeshkian defended the supreme leader against criticism and described his leadership as an important source of stability for Iran.
Pezeshkian Says Communication With Khamenei Is Challenging
During the interview, Pezeshkian admitted that maintaining direct contact with Mojtaba Khamenei has become increasingly difficult.
However, he stressed that the supreme leader’s continued presence provides confidence and continuity for the country’s leadership.
According to the president, despite the communication challenges, Khamenei remains a central figure in ensuring that government affairs continue to function during the ongoing crisis.
Mojtaba Khamenei Has Remained Largely Out of Public View
Mojtaba Khamenei assumed the role of Iran’s supreme leader after his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a US-Israeli strike on February 28, an event that escalated conflict in West Asia.
Reports indicate that Mojtaba Khamenei was also injured in the same attack. Since then, he has largely stayed away from public appearances, communicating primarily through written statements.
His absence from several major public events—including his father’s funeral ceremonies—has led to speculation regarding his health and the extent of his engagement with Iran’s political leadership.
President Defends Supreme Leader
Rejecting criticism directed at Mojtaba Khamenei, Pezeshkian said his interactions with the supreme leader had been constructive.
He described their meetings as productive and praised Khamenei for demonstrating “kindness” and “very sound logic” while discussing important national issues.
The Iranian president suggested that Khamenei’s approach to governance reflected careful consideration rather than rigid decision-making.
Pezeshkian Accuses Critics of Fueling Political Divisions
Pezeshkian also alleged that certain political groups were attempting to create divisions by portraying the supreme leader negatively.
Referring to a recent policy discussion, he said Mojtaba Khamenei accepted the recommendation of an expert council after a proposal received support from 12 of the 13 members.
According to Pezeshkian, this willingness to respect expert opinion was later misrepresented by critics for political purposes.
He argued that some individuals were using the incident to spread misleading narratives and deepen political differences within the country.
Leadership Under Scrutiny
The president’s comments come at a time when Iran’s leadership continues to face close scrutiny following months of regional conflict and uncertainty.
While questions remain over Mojtaba Khamenei’s limited public appearances, Pezeshkian sought to reassure the public that the supreme leader remains actively involved in the country’s decision-making process and continues to provide leadership during a challenging period.
His remarks also underscore the government’s effort to project unity and stability as Iran navigates ongoing geopolitical and domestic challenges.
