India’s new-car market is gearing up for an exciting few months, with several launches spanning luxury SUVs, electric family vehicles, hatchbacks and lifestyle pickups. For buyers planning to purchase a car this year, waiting a little longer could open up some interesting options.
BMW, Audi, MG, Maruti Suzuki and Kia all have important products lined up, while Mahindra is preparing a new lifestyle pickup for a later launch. Here are six upcoming cars that could be worth considering before making your next purchase.
1. BMW X1 Long Wheelbase
BMW is preparing to introduce the X1 Long Wheelbase in India on August 21, with bookings already underway.
The biggest difference compared with the standard X1 is its extended body, which is expected to create more cabin space, particularly for passengers sitting in the second row.
The X1 LWB should appeal to luxury-car buyers who want additional rear-seat comfort but do not want to step up to a much larger premium SUV.
It is worth noting that the X1 LWB is different from the electric BMW iX1 LWB, which has already established itself as one of BMW’s stronger-selling models in India.
2. New-Generation Audi Q3
Audi is set to launch the third-generation Q3 on August 25. The new model gets a significant design overhaul along with a redesigned interior featuring updated technology.
In international markets, the Q3 is offered with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine developing approximately 204 bhp and 320 Nm. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system.
Audi is expected to announce the India-specific engine and equipment details closer to the launch.
The new Q3 will continue to compete in the premium entry-level SUV category against rivals such as the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
3. MG Hector Tomahawk EV
MG is also preparing to enter the electric three-row SUV space with the Hector Tomahawk EV, which is scheduled to arrive on August 26.
The seven-seat electric SUV has already opened for pre-bookings and has been seen undergoing testing. Early indications suggest that it could offer a driving range of more than 500 km.
Its three-row configuration could make it particularly attractive to families looking for an EV without compromising on passenger capacity.
The Hector Tomahawk EV is also significant for MG because it will reportedly be the company’s first India-bound model based on its ADAPT platform.
However, MG has not yet revealed complete India-specific specifications. Details such as the final battery capacity, power output and officially certified range are still awaited.
4. Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift
Maruti Suzuki is expected to introduce an updated version of the Baleno in the first week of September.
Test vehicles have already suggested that the premium hatchback will receive styling revisions, particularly at the front. Changes are expected to include updates to the grille and bumper design.
The cabin is likely to retain much of its existing layout, although Maruti could introduce additional features and changes to the available variants and trims.
The familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is also expected to continue.
Rather than being an entirely new-generation model, the upcoming Baleno appears likely to receive a relatively focused facelift aimed at refreshing its design and equipment.
5. Kia Sorento
Kia is preparing to expand its Indian SUV portfolio with the Sorento, which will sit above the Seltos and Sportage.
The three-row SUV is expected to become Kia’s flagship SUV in India and could bring another major first for the brand — a hybrid powertrain.
The hybrid version is expected to use a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 238 bhp and 380 Nm. A diesel variant is also anticipated, with an output of approximately 202 bhp and 441 Nm.
Along with three-row seating, the Sorento is expected to offer a premium cabin and a long list of features.
Once launched, it could compete with established SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Skoda Kodiaq.
6. Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler
Mahindra has already revealed the production version of its upcoming Scorpio Lifestyler, although buyers will have to wait longer for it to arrive.
The lifestyle pickup is scheduled for an India launch in April 2027 and is based on the Scorpio N platform. It features a double-cab configuration along with a dedicated cargo bed.
The Scorpio Lifestyler will enter the lifestyle pickup market currently occupied by models such as the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.
Mahindra has indicated that the new pickup will be priced below ₹19.79 lakh, which could give it an advantage over some established competitors.
Which Upcoming Car Should You Wait For?
For luxury SUV buyers, the BMW X1 LWB and new Audi Q3 could be the most interesting upcoming launches. Buyers looking for an electric family SUV may want to keep an eye on the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, particularly if its expected range crosses the 500-km mark.
Those seeking a practical and familiar hatchback could consider waiting for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift, while premium SUV buyers wanting three rows and hybrid technology may find the Kia Sorento worth considering.
For lifestyle pickup enthusiasts, the Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler could be an intriguing option, although its April 2027 launch means it is not a near-term purchase.
