Lucknow/Ayodhya: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a significant increase in the monthly honorarium of Anganwadi workers in the state. Speaking at an event in Ayodhya, the Chief Minister said the honorarium for Anganwadi workers will be increased from ₹8,000 to ₹12,000 per month.
The announcement is expected to benefit around 1.5 lakh Anganwadi workers across Uttar Pradesh. The government has also enhanced the honorarium for Anganwadi helpers over the past nine years, taking it from ₹2,000 to ₹6,000 per month.
Along with the higher honorarium, Anganwadi workers and helpers will receive additional welfare benefits. These include health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh and an additional saree from the state government.
CM Yogi Highlights Changes Since 2017
During his address in Ayodhya, CM Yogi Adityanath recalled the condition of Anganwadi centres in Uttar Pradesh before 2017. He claimed that many centres were poorly maintained and lacked basic facilities.
According to the Chief Minister, children attending these centres often had to bring their own floor mats from home. Drinking water facilities were also reportedly unavailable at several centres, while the quality and timely supply of nutritional food remained a major concern.
Yogi Adityanath said that although funds were made available by the Central Government, the previous state administration failed to ensure that resources reached Anganwadi centres properly. He alleged that procurement and distribution systems were affected by corruption, leaving Anganwadi workers and helpers to face criticism from the public.
Anganwadi Honorarium Increased From ₹3,000 to ₹12,000
CM Yogi said that when his government came to power, the monthly honorarium for Anganwadi workers was ₹3,000. It was subsequently increased to ₹8,000, and the latest announcement will take the amount to ₹12,000 per month.
He also highlighted the increase in the honorarium of Anganwadi helpers, which has risen substantially over the last nine years.
The Chief Minister said his government has worked to improve the functioning of Anganwadi centres and make the distribution of nutritional supplies more transparent.
Yogi Targets Previous SP Government
During his Ayodhya address, CM Yogi Adityanath also criticised the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) government, alleging that the Anganwadi system had been neglected before 2017.
He claimed that nutritional rations and other supplies did not reach centres efficiently and alleged that a liquor mafia had influence over the distribution system. According to Yogi, this left Anganwadi workers and helpers responsible in the eyes of the public despite problems originating within the government system.
The Chief Minister said his administration has taken steps to streamline the supply mechanism and improve facilities at Anganwadi centres.
CM Yogi Accuses SP of Opposing Ayodhya Development
Yogi Adityanath also used the occasion to attack the Samajwadi Party over the development of Ayodhya Dham.
He alleged that the SP opposed several major infrastructure projects undertaken during the transformation of Ayodhya. According to Yogi, the party objected to road-widening projects and raised opposition to the construction of the railway station.
He further claimed that the Samajwadi Party protested against the development of the airport named after Maharshi Valmiki.
The Chief Minister described these objections as evidence of what he termed an “anti-development” approach, while asserting that his government has focused on improving infrastructure and accelerating development in Ayodhya and across Uttar Pradesh.
