October 2026 will have several bank holidays across India, with closures varying from one city or state to another. The Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar includes festival and regional holidays during the month, along with the regular Sunday and second- and fourth-Saturday closures.
Since bank holidays are not the same across the country, customers should check the holiday applicable to their particular banking centre before visiting a branch.

Are Banks Open Today, September 25?
Anant Chaturdashi is being observed on Friday, September 25, but it does not result in a nationwide bank closure.
Banks are scheduled to remain open across most parts of India. The major exception is Gangtok in Sikkim, where branches are closed for Indrajatra.
The difference is because the RBI’s bank-holiday calendar is based on individual banking centres and regional observances. A festival holiday in one location therefore does not automatically mean that bank branches across the country will shut.
Customers who need branch-based services should check the holiday calendar applicable to their local branch before travelling.
Bank Closures After September 25
After September 25, September 26 is the fourth Saturday, when bank branches are scheduled to remain closed across the country.
The following day, September 27, is Sunday. However, there is an important exception this time. The government has announced that all Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will function normally on Sunday, September 27, because of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30. The RBI has approved the operation of bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests on September 27.
This arrangement is intended to help customers access banking services before the proposed strike period.
