DA Hike: There is good news for government employees, teachers and pensioners in Andhra Pradesh. The state government has approved two pending installments of Dearness Allowance (DA), providing financial relief to a large number of employees and pensioners.
The Andhra Pradesh Finance Department has issued official orders for the DA revision. As per the latest decision, employees will receive a 2.73% DA increase from July 1, 2024, along with another 1.82% increase effective from January 1, 2025. Together, these two installments will result in a total DA hike of 4.55%.
The government has also directed that the revised DA should be reflected in employees’ September salary.
AP DA Hike: Two Installments Approved
Under the latest orders, the first DA installment of 2.73% will be applicable retrospectively from July 1, 2024. The second installment, amounting to 1.82%, will take effect from January 1, 2025.
With both installments being approved, the overall increase in DA will stand at 4.55%. This revision will increase the monthly salary of eligible employees and provide a corresponding benefit to pensioners.
DA Arrears Payment: Know the Schedule
Along with the revised DA, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced a schedule for clearing the pending arrears.
The 26 months of arrears related to the 2.73% DA, applicable from July 1, 2024, will be paid in installments during:
- April 2027
- June 2027
- August 2027
- October 2027
Meanwhile, 20 months of arrears linked to the 1.82% DA, effective from January 1, 2025, will be released in installments in:
- January 2028
- March 2028
- May 2028
- July 2028
According to the Finance Department’s directive, pensioners will also receive their eligible DA arrears according to the same payment schedule.
Who Will Benefit From the AP DA Increase?
The DA revision will benefit a wide section of the state’s workforce. Apart from regular state government employees, the decision will cover eligible teachers, pensioners, contractual employees and local body staff.
Employees working under various local government institutions, including:
- Zilla Parishads
- Mandal Parishads
- Gram Panchayats
- Municipalities
- Municipal Corporations
will also receive the applicable DA benefits under the latest orders.
Teachers and University Staff to Get DA Benefit
The Finance Department has also clarified that the DA revision will extend to teaching and non-teaching employees of aided educational institutions.
Eligible teaching and non-teaching staff working in universities across Andhra Pradesh will also receive the benefit as prescribed under the latest government orders.
Employees and Pensioners Get Financial Relief
The approval of two long-pending DA installments comes at a time when rising prices of essential goods and household expenses are putting additional pressure on family budgets.
Employee unions and pensioners’ associations have welcomed the government’s decision, particularly the announcement regarding the payment of arrears.
With the total DA increase of 4.55%, employees can expect an increase in their monthly salary, while pensioners will also receive higher DA as applicable. The announced arrears schedule provides further financial relief to eligible beneficiaries in the coming years.
