Punjab National Bank (PNB) has issued an important notice for customers whose bank accounts have remained inactive for a long period. The bank may close certain accounts after November 10, 2026, if they have had no customer-initiated transactions for three years and currently carry a zero balance.

According to PNB, accounts with no customer activity during the three-year period ending September 30, 2026, are being reviewed. Customers whose accounts meet both conditions have been advised to complete the required formalities by November 10 to avoid possible inconvenience.

Which PNB Accounts Could Be Closed?

The bank has shared the alert through its official social media account on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The notice specifically concerns accounts that have not recorded any customer-initiated transactions for the past three years and have a zero balance. PNB says the measure is intended to reduce the possibility of account misuse and address potential security risks.

However, the action will not apply to every inactive account. Only accounts meeting both specified conditions may be considered for closure or deactivation.

When Does PNB Classify an Account as Inoperative?

Under PNB’s guidelines, a bank account may be treated as inoperative if there has been no transaction for 24 consecutive months.

This includes both financial and non-financial activities. Non-financial activities may involve requesting a banking product or updating KYC information.

The latest notice, however, identifies a separate set of conditions for the proposed closure: a zero account balance and no customer-initiated activity during the specified three-year period.

How Can Customers Reactivate an Inactive Account?

Customers who need to reactivate an account may be required to complete the bank’s prescribed verification process. The documents and details mentioned include:

  • Identity and address proof: Valid documents such as a passport, voter ID or driving licence.
  • Tax-related documents: PAN card or Form 16.
  • Written request: A formal application requesting reactivation of the account.

Customers should contact their nearest PNB branch to confirm the applicable requirements and complete the process before the specified deadline.
