Amul Had Earlier Reduced Prices After GST Cut

In September 2025, Amul had reduced the prices of around 700 dairy products following a reduction in GST rates from 12% to 5%.

At that time, the price of a one-litre ghee carton came down from ₹650 to ₹610. Similarly, the cost of a five-litre ghee tin was reduced from ₹3,275 to ₹3,075.

Butter also became cheaper following the tax revision. The 100-gram pack was reduced from ₹62 to ₹58, while the 500-gram pack fell from ₹305 to ₹285.

Amul Ghee Supply Shortage Reported in Gujarat

Along with the price revision, consumers in some areas are reportedly facing difficulties finding certain Amul dairy products. Retailers in Vadodara and Ahmedabad have reported declining ghee stocks, with higher demand after the Ganesh festival affecting the availability of cow ghee.

On Tuesday, an outlet of D-Mart in Ahmedabad’s Satellite area reportedly had no Amul ghee or butter available.

Supply-related complaints have also emerged outside Gujarat. Similar disruptions were reported in Pune and Kolkata during July and September.

Demand for Branded Ghee Rises After Crackdown on Fake Products

A cooperative leader associated with Amul said that recent action against counterfeit ghee in Gujarat and Rajasthan has contributed to a sudden increase in demand for branded products.

According to the leader, nearly 200,000 kilograms of fake ghee have been seized from different locations across the two states over the past six months. The crackdown has reportedly encouraged consumers to place greater trust in established brands such as Amul.

Festival-season consumption is adding further pressure on supplies. The cooperative leader also stated that approximately 45% of the total annual ghee sales take place during the festive period. This seasonal rise in demand has made it more challenging to maintain product availability.
