The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is marking its 74th Foundation Day in New Delhi on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Union Labour and Employment Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya is inaugurating the event, according to a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
The occasion highlights EPFO’s efforts to improve access to provident fund services and make them more convenient for subscribers. Two major initiatives are among the key announcements scheduled for the celebrations: automatic settlement of eligible inactive EPF accounts with balances of up to ₹1,000 and the introduction of services through WhatsApp.
These measures are aimed at simplifying routine processes and giving members additional ways to access their provident fund services.
Automatic Settlement of Inactive EPF Accounts Up to ₹1,000
One of the major initiatives planned for the Foundation Day is the automatic settlement of eligible inoperative EPF accounts carrying balances of up to ₹1,000.
Under this facility, qualifying inactive accounts will be settled automatically, removing the need for members to submit a separate settlement request. The initiative is expected to help clear small pending balances and reduce the time and effort involved in completing the process.
However, the detailed eligibility conditions and implementation procedure have not been specified in the Ministry’s press release.
EPFO Services to Be Available Through WhatsApp
EPFO is also set to introduce WhatsApp-based services for its subscribers. This will provide members with another channel to access provident fund-related assistance and services.
The initiative forms part of the organisation’s broader efforts to make service delivery more accessible and improve communication with its members.
The Ministry’s announcement has not yet provided a complete list of services that will be available through WhatsApp or detailed instructions on how subscribers can use the facility.
Bhavishya Nidhi Awards 2026 to Recognise EPFO Employees
The 74th Foundation Day programme will also feature the presentation of the Bhavishya Nidhi Awards 2026.
Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will recognise the contributions of EPFO’s Regional Offices, Zonal Offices, officers and employees for their work and achievements.
During the event, the Minister is also scheduled to visit exhibition stalls and release publications covering the organisation’s activities. These publications will focus on knowledge creation, institutional learning, compassionate governance and legal awareness.
What the New Initiatives Mean for EPFO Subscribers
As EPFO completes 74 years, the planned initiatives reflect its efforts to improve the delivery of provident fund services and make account-related processes easier for members.
The automatic settlement facility could help eligible subscribers clear small balances in inactive accounts without a separate application. Meanwhile, WhatsApp-based services are expected to offer another convenient way to connect with EPFO.
Subscribers should wait for the organisation’s detailed guidelines to understand the eligibility requirements, available services and steps involved in using these facilities.
