Samsung is reportedly exploring the possibility of adding another wide-format foldable smartphone to its lineup in 2027. According to a new leak, the company is considering two potential models, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 9 Plus and the Galaxy Z Fold 9 FE, which could target different price segments.
The development follows the launch of the wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 earlier this year. While Samsung has not confirmed its plans for the next generation of foldable devices, the latest report offers an early look at the possible direction of its 2027 lineup.
Samsung Reportedly Testing Two Galaxy Z Fold 9 Variants
Samsung is testing a wide-format foldable phone for 2027. The device could arrive under either the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Plus or Galaxy Z Fold 9 FE name.
The two options are expected to serve different market segments. The Galaxy Z Fold 9 Plus could offer a wider design while retaining the core specifications of the standard Galaxy Z Fold 9. It is also tipped to feature a larger battery.
The Galaxy Z Fold 9 FE, meanwhile, could be positioned as a more affordable alternative, with Samsung reportedly considering compromises in some hardware components to reduce its price.
Galaxy Z Fold 9 FE Specifications and Expected Price
According to the leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 9 FE could feature a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera instead of a higher-resolution sensor. The device is also tipped to use Samsung’s Exynos 2600 chipset rather than the processor expected to power the standard flagship model.
These changes could help Samsung offer the foldable phone at a lower price than its premium counterparts. The tipster suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 9 FE could be priced at around $1,699.
However, Samsung has not confirmed the device’s name, specifications or pricing. The reported details remain unverified, and the company could change its plans before the expected launch.
Samsung’s Latest Foldable Smartphone Lineup
Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 at its Galaxy Unpacked event in July.
The book-style foldable smartphones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 follows a dual-chip strategy, with Samsung’s Exynos 2600 processor used in some regions.
Although rumours about the Galaxy Z Fold 9 series have started to emerge, Samsung has yet to announce the next-generation lineup or confirm whether either the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Plus or Galaxy Z Fold 9 FE will be released in 2027.
