The Xiaomi 18 is reportedly in development, with a new leak offering a glimpse of its expected design and specifications. Although Xiaomi has not confirmed the launch date, the upcoming smartphone is tipped to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, a large rear camera module and two 200-megapixel cameras. The device will succeed the Xiaomi 17, which was launched last year.

Xiaomi 18 Design and Expected Specifications

According to tipster Smart Pikachu, who shared the information on Weibo, the standard Xiaomi 18 could feature a redesigned rear panel with a prominent camera module placed in the upper-left corner. The smartphone is also expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor.

The upcoming handset is tipped to retain the compact, smaller-screen design of its predecessor while adopting design elements from the Xiaomi 18 Pro series. However, the standard Xiaomi 18 may not include the Smart Privacy Display feature available on the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max.

The device is also rumoured to pack a 7,000mAh battery, which would be a notable feature of the upcoming smartphone.

Xiaomi 18 Camera Details

One of the key highlights of the leak is the possibility of a dual 200-megapixel rear camera setup. If accurate, this configuration could represent a significant change from the camera hardware found on the Xiaomi 17.

The previous-generation model features a Leica-tuned triple rear camera system, with all three sensors offering a 50-megapixel resolution. The Xiaomi 18, by comparison, is tipped to feature two higher-resolution 200-megapixel cameras.

However, Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the camera specifications, so the reported details should be treated as unconfirmed for now.

Xiaomi 18 Launch Timeline and Availability

Xiaomi has yet to announce the launch date or pricing details for the standard Xiaomi 18. The company launched the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max in China last month, with both models expected to reach other global markets in the coming months.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, while the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max reportedly uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. Both smartphones feature triple rear camera systems with 200-megapixel sensors.

The Pro models also include the Smart Privacy Display feature and mini displays on their rear panels. It remains unclear which of these features, if any, will be carried over to the standard Xiaomi 18.

More details about the smartphone’s specifications, pricing and availability are expected to emerge as Xiaomi’s launch plans become clearer.
