The actress discussed her approach to choosing roles during an appearance with her husband, Vijay Deverakonda, on Koffee With Karan Season 9. The episode aired on JioHotstar on October 21, 2026.

Starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, Peddi is directed by Buchi Babu Sana. Following the backlash, the director reportedly apologised and removed the controversial portions. The film was released in theatres on June 4, 2026.

Rashmika Mandanna Shares Her Views on On-Screen Exposure

During her conversation with host Karan Johar, Rashmika spoke about the boundaries she maintains when taking on film roles. Johar pointed out that she had not faced similar controversies over her own on-screen appearances and asked whether she consciously set limits.

Responding to the question, Rashmika explained that she was uncomfortable with excessive skin exposure, even when certain costumes might be required for a character.

“There are some things that I am not okay with. I know some characters sort of need something like a bikini or something like that, but even in that, I would say I am not very comfortable with exposing or skin show; I am not that kind of person,” she said.

The actress acknowledged that certain roles may require actors to wear outfits they are not entirely comfortable with. However, she emphasised the importance of expressing personal concerns and communicating boundaries during the filmmaking process.

Vijay Deverakonda Supports Rashmika’s Perspective

Rashmika further explained that she prefers working with directors who respect the limits she sets for herself.

“But at the same time, there are lines that I draw for myself, which most often directors are okay with. Those are the kind of people I prefer working with,” she added.

Vijay Deverakonda supported his wife’s perspective, pointing to the challenges actors can face when discussing their comfort levels on set.

During the conversation, Karan Johar also referred to his earlier interaction with Janhvi Kapoor, mentioning the vulnerability she experienced following the Peddi controversy. The discussion brought attention to the pressures actors face when their performances and on-screen portrayals become subjects of public debate.

Rashmika’s comments come amid wider discussions about how women are portrayed in commercial films and the importance of respecting actors’ boundaries. Her remarks highlighted the role of communication between performers and directors in ensuring that actors feel comfortable with their characters and scenes.

The Peddi controversy has drawn attention to questions surrounding on-screen representation, consent and creative decisions in filmmaking. Rashmika’s perspective on Koffee With Karan Season 9 added another dimension to the conversation, focusing on an actor’s ability to make informed choices about how they are portrayed on screen.

Her comments underline the importance of clear communication between actors and filmmakers when navigating sensitive scenes and costume requirements.
